Motorola Droid Ultra Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Now Live

Earlier last week we told you that Motorola has begun the Droid Ultra Android 4.4.4 KitKat soak tests and that the update should go public in a few days. Verizon officially revealed today on their support page that the Android 4.4.4 update for Droid Ultra is now available for download. After the members of the Motorola Feedback Network were the first to enjoy the new Droid Ultra update, the new software update is now being made available for everyone else.

The Droid Ultra Android 4.4.4 update has firmware version 21.11.21.obake_verizon.Verizon.en.US and it’s being rolled out in stages, meaning that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. As you might have guessed already, the update is being pushed over-the-air, so you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar as soon as your smartphone becomes eligible to receive the new firwmare.

Once the system update notification pops up on your device, all you need to do is tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. In case the system update notification fails to show up, you would also want to consider performing a manual update under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.

According to Verizon’s support PDF, the Droid Ultra Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update arrives with stability, framework, and security improvements, better Bluetooth connectivity, and improved camera picture quality. The new firmware also arrives with enhancements for photos taken in fluorescent lighting and better dynamic range. Once you update your Droid Ultra to Android 4.4.4 KitKat you would also be able to pause video recording courtesy of the new pause/resume button on the viewfinder.

Since we’re talking about a software update released by the folks at Verizon, you will also come across bloatware like update VZ Cloud and Visual Voicemail apps, while the ISIS Wallet Mobile app is now pre-loaded.
