New Android 4.3 Update for Sony Xperia Z Rolling out at T-Mobile, Brings UI and App Enhancements

Even though it’s not the much-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Sony Xperia Z, the new firmware that it’s now being rolled out for T-Mobile users brings a handful of interface and app tweaks.

T-Mobile officially announced on their support page that the Sony Xperia Z is getting a new software update labeled 10.4.C.0.808. The new firmware is still based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but it arrives with a couple of interesting enhancements.

According to the official changelog posted on the aforementioned support page, the new Android 4.3 update for T-Mobile Xperia Z arrives with user interface improvements, while adding the option to perform a master reset using the hardware keys. The 10.4.C.0.808 update for Xperia Z also moves the Music Unlimited app to the Walkman application and the Play Memories app to the Album application.

As usual, the new update will be rolled out in stages, meaning that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. Once your T-Mobile Xperia Z becomes eligible to receive the 10.4.C.0.808 update you should receive a message in the notification area. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. Alternatively you can perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software update > Check now or you can grab the USB cable, connect your Sony Xperia Z to the PC and check for the new software through the Sony PC Companion.

T-Mobile also notes that the new Android 4.3 update for Xperia Z has a size of 312 MB and that your handset needs to have at least 50% battery left in order to complete the install. Furthermore, we are recommending you to download the update file using a stable WiFi connection in order to avoid unwanted data charges.

Are there any T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z owners reading this? Have you guys received the 10.4.C.0.808 OTA update? Please let your fellow Xperia Z owners know in the comments section below.

DO NOT INSTALL 4.4.2 – only installed it a few hours ago and it’s draining the battery excessively and I can’t use some of my password protected apps!!! The screen just doesn’t seem to be responding as it was prior to the update. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

    • Si

bricked my phone – totally useless – wtf Sony??

    • Annie

Same here – even with data disabled it went from 80+% battery life to 35% overnight. Ridiculous.

same problem here 4.4 done my phone in, I had to factory resist twice just to get it up again!

I contacted sony support (online chat) regarding this F**K UP! the lady insisted that they have not had any reports as such, I’m 4.4 has so many issues on other phones, Why is Sony rolling Sh*T out the door!!!

  • Dimitri

I got herpes when installing it. Thanks…

  • vermilion

Why aren’t we getting kitkat? Wtf?

  • Nat

I need this off my phone NOW. I cant get online at all. Having trouble with screen response and using apps as others have said. Battery is screwed and badly over heating.
GET THIS OFF MY PHONE NOW. . . . . . . It really is a joke.. . . Will a factory reset get rid of it. . . .i can’t afford for my phone not to have internet access and to have an even lower lasting battery. . .the battery on this phone was rubbish to start with . Now with all this crap it doesn’t even last half a day. GET IT FIXED ASAP OR I’LL FIND A WAY TO CANCEL MY CONTRACT WITH TMOBILE AS ITS THEIR STUPID COMPANY THAT HAD TO BE DIFFERENT AND SCREW THIS UP . . .

My phone is NOW FOREVER ON FIRE!!!!

  • Luke Burzio

Im having same problems, mainly the battery draining from 85% down to 12% over 7 hours of sleep at night with Stamina mode ON, this needs fixing asap as i rely on my phones alarm clock to get me out of bed in the mornings.

Folks I spoke to Sony support, they seem to think all is fine! my xperia z is unusable:( They knew 4.4.2 has major issues, but they still roll it out! I losing faith with Sony.

I have managed to get my phone work 60% normally, try these might help!

    Laggy Performance
    – enable force gpu in your developer setting (seems to operate smoother)
    – disable all sync options and location settings.

    Battery issues
    – for battery drain issues check your battery usage and see what app/s is using most i.e clear all apps making sure nothing is running, then go in to power usage and check if anything is using excess battery, nothing should be above 15/24% normally. if so disable that app.

    – ok, finally I have been having trouble with the new stupid lock screen/sparkly sprite rubbish! its not allowing my phone to unlock sometimes simply goes crazy! I found that disabling stamina mode and battery mode helps, but not perfect.

I cant guaranty it will work for you, but no harm in trying.

I just updated and things are working great. So far I’m just noticing a different coat of paint basically. But it’s nice.

  • Has anyone installed the 4.3 update for t-mobile, it seems like everyone is commenting on the global 4.4 update that is messing everything up. is the t-mobile update good? I have downloaded but not installed yet because I can’t loose battery life, i need it to last at least as long as it is

  • King moa

I updated it yesterday and later put my phone on the charging, before I went to bed the phone was 100% charged. I put my alarm on for college and when I woke up in the morning for college I looked at the battery and it was 20%!!!!!!!!. That is not POSSIBLE

  • Yeah just installed 4.3 seems fine and the setting page looks different. i really would have loved to get 4.4 update but this will do.

  • Marcus Sands

    Love the new keyboard.

  • cristian

Just got the update and everything seems to be going fine. Hope I don’t get the same problems everyone else is getting. But I really hope we don’t get the 4.4 update when the 4.5. Update comes out. That would suck just saying

  • Anne King

Installed this update last night and it has had a terrible effect on battery life – barely lasted the day. Not good enough. How do I remove the update?

  • susano

I just downloaded it this morning. I noticed my battery percentage was steadily decreasing so I took of the percentage sign and full charged my battery. It now works well. I have a problem with my app icons. Some doesn’t show just the name.I have no problems as of now besides that.

  • James Jackson

Downloaded the T-Mobile 4.3 update earlier today. I’ve seen normal battery life and normal operation. I personally don’t like that they switched the settings screens to a light theme rather than a dark theme and there’s no way to adjust it, but such is life.

For all of you complaining about battery drain overnight: There was a problem with Google’s sync servers several nights ago for my account… plugged in my phone drained from 50% battery to 14% battery overnight. Looking in to the battery usage monitor told me it was “Google Services” which is always a battery hog, but this time it was over 50% of the use. I disabled the google account syncs for a day and that resolved the problem. The google accounts not syncing properly has not reoccured since reenabling the account sync on my phone.

  • Rosie I

I hate this new update!!! It looks and works terrible!!! I personally hate the new keyboard!!!! Everything just looks outdated instead of updated wtf!!!!

    • Briana Giselle Jauregui
