A new Android 4.4.2 update for HTC One M8 is now being pushed to the European owners of the smartphone. Before you jump into conclusion and say that this is the Extreme Power Saving mode update, you should know that the European variants of the smartphone had the battery saving featured installed out of the box.
The HTC One M8 Android 4.4.2 update has firmware version 1.54.401.10 and has a size of 66 MB, therefore you would be able to download it using your mobile internet connection without doing to much damaging your data plan. As you have probably guessed, the new firmware is being released in phases, which means that its ETA may vary depending on carrier and region. Anyway, users in certain parts of Europe are already reporting that they the new software is available for them.
According to the official changelog for the Android 4.4.2 1.54.401.10 OTA update for HTC One M8 the new firmware brings radio stability improvements, along with stability enhancements for the camera app, video highlight, and FM radio, plus an update for Weather app barometer.
Once your HTC One M8 becomes eligible to receive the new firmware update you should receive a system update message in the notification area. Tap on it, press the download button, wait until the download completes, then hit the install button. Note that the phone might reboot several times during the install so if this happens there’s no reason to panic.
If the system update message doesn’t pop up in the notification area, it’s also worth checking for the new software update in the Settings menu under About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates.
