Samsung Galaxy S4 has received today a new small firmawre update for its Android OS, one that brings KNOX 2.0 and Kids Mode features. The firmware version is I9505XXUGNE5 and it is still based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
Check the phone’s notification panel to apply the update when this will be sent to your region.
As you know the updates rolled out by Samsung for the LTE Galaxy S4 device are done in phases, not all regions will get the new firmware files at the same time. Germany is the first country that gets the official update while others should follow soon. If you don’t want to wait for the official OTA update to be pushed to your device, then you can choose to manually flash the I9505XXUGNE5 firmware.
Android 4.4.2 KitKat brings the Kids Mode and the Samsung KNOX 2.0 security. With Kids Mode enabled your kids will be able to play their favorite games and access various children-oriented apps easier than before. Knox 2.0 brings a better secure solution for your Galaxy S4 I9505 LTE model.
If you’re in Germany than you can wait for the update to reach your device starting today. If you’re from a different country then you should wait until Samsung pushes the new firmware files. You can also choose to check for new updates by going through Settings> About Phone and Software Updates.
The I9505XXUGNE5 Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update files measure around 130MB.
If there is a firmware update file available then you simply need to confirm the download and installation, the Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 will reboot a few times before complete update. Note that it would be best for you to use a Wi-Fi connection in order to avoid mobile data charges.
Note that this update is only available for the LTE model of the Galaxy S4, the GSM I9500 model still has to wait until Kids Mode and KNOX 2.0 reaches it.
