New Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.2 Update Rolling out at Sprint, Enables WiFi Calling

A new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.2 OTA update is now being pushed to Sprint users. If you happen to own the Sprint Galaxy S5, the you’d better keep an eye on the notification panel.

The US carrier officially revealed on their community page that a new firmware update is being rolled out for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5. Unfortunately, it’s not the much-awaited Android 4.4.4 update for the Galaxy S5, but still an Android 4.4.2 build.

The new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.2 update has build number G900PVPU1ANE5 and, just like any other update, it’s being rolled out in phases. It seems that the only enhancement brought by the new firmware is the WiFi calling support.

I was mentioning above that the new Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S5 is being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. As you may know, once your Samsung Galaxy S5 becomes eligible to receive the Android 4.4.2 G900PVPU1ANE5 update, you should be able to see a system update message in the notification bar. Tap on it, choose download, wait for the download to complete, the select install now.

If the system update failed to show up, you would probably want to perform a manual check under Settings > System update > Update Now. In case this method doesn’t work either, then your last chances is to grab the USB cable, connect your smartphone the the PC, then check for the new firmware via KIES. If the KIES check failed, then you would have to wait a few more days.

Are there any Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 owners reading this? Have you guys received the Android 4.4.2 G900PVPU1ANE5 OTA update on your devices? Please let your fellow Galaxy S5 owners know in the comments section below. Oh, and don’t forget to mention your location.

I received the OTA update just a few days ago. WiFi calling is now an option, but it doesn’t seem that much else changed. One annoying thing: in the notification bar, a circled checkmark with the words “software update” pops up quite often, usually when opening up an app. The OTA update was successfully installed, so I don’t know why it keeps showing that. It’s bizarre. It does disappear after a second, but it is still irritating!

Yeap just updated the firmware in Las vegas NV, and like mention above its wifi calling which you have to agree to terms to use. Have not read the terms yet, but I’m sure its making you liable for something.

I updated my Sprint Galaxy S5 yesterday, i guess.
But in the notification bar a “system update” pops up frequently after the update.
I’m receiving some text group messages from friend much later than i should (sometimes the next day).
And made some phone calls where the person on the other end couldn’t hear me.
I don’t know if that has anything to do with the update but it’s annoying me.
And on the Mobile Networks settings it changed from LTE/CDMA to Automatic after the update (at least it was when i noticed).

With the new Samsung Galaxy coming out I better sell my old Galaxy before the value of it drops. I usually search 8-16 different sites to find the best offer, but I just found this company that compares all the buyback companies in one spot, it’s called RecomHub.

It’s like Kayak but for electronic devices that show you all the offers in one spot.

I got the update two days ago and have had nothing but trouble. When my phone is connected to my home network my apps will take forever to load, it takes forever for websites to come up, videos to load and play, or I have to try multiple times to keep refreshing my browser. Now, even if I get a page to load, if I try to post something then all of a sudden it says I have no network connection even though my wifi icon has full bars. All my other devices with a wifi connection work fine. I never had trouble with this before. It’s completely irritating and I hate it. Houston, TX

Ever since I updated my Galaxy S5…this phone has been freezing and constantly shuts off unexpectedly. I just updated the phone yesterday 07/10 and this has been nothing short of a headache. I didn’t have these problems before the update.
