Nexus 5 Is Official: Release Date, Specs, and Price Revealed

After months of Nexus 5 rumors, leaked photos, and leaked FCC documents, we are finally able to tell you that the highly anticipated smartphone is officially official. But the good news don’t stop here, as the Nexus 5 will have a starting price of just $349, just like it was indicated in the latest reports.

The official Nexus 5 announcement did nothing more than to confirm the technical specifications that leaked over the past few weeks.

The new handset co-developed by Google and LG packs a 4.95-inch 1920×1080 Full HD IPS display (445 ppi) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, Qualcomm’s might Snapdragon 800 cipset with quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 16 or 32 GB storage, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

Nexus 5 is  69.17 mm tall, 137.84 mm wide, and weighs only 130 grams. Under the 8.59 mm thin case you will find  Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC (Android Beam), and Bluetooth 4.0, and support for LTE (Bands 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41), WCDMA (Bands 1/2/4/5/6/8/19), CDMA (Band Class 0/1/10), and GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz).

In terms of ports and connectors the Nexus 5 brings microUSB, SlimPort enabled, 3.5mm stereo audio jack, Dual microphones, Ceramic power and volume buttons.

The back lid accomodates an 8 MP camre with Optical Image Stabilization, while the user-facing camera has a 1.3 MP sensor. Of course, the handset will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Even though the Nexus 5 has a larger screen than its predecessor, it has about the same size as the Nexus 4. Because Google and LG chose to use a soft-touch plastic material for the back instead of glass, the Nexus 5 is a bit lighter than the Nexus 4. If you’re wondering how the soft-plastic back feels like you can hold a Nexus 7 2013 as the experience will be similar.

Along with the Nexus 5 Google introduced four different compatible bumper cases available in gray, yellow, black, and red for $34.99. If you want to go with a QuickCover you will have to pay $49.99 and you will only get two choose from two color options: black and gray.

Since the Nexus 5 is already live in Google Play you can follow this link and order yours right away. The handset is available in black and white/black body liveries at prices of $349 and $399 for the 16 and 32 GB variants, respectively. If you place your order now you will receive your unit on 11/5, so don’t hold your breath.

The Mountain View-based giant announced that the handset is available for purchase through Play Store in US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea. One big surprise is that the Indian Google Play Store will be selling the Nexus 5 soon, as well.
