A few days ago a rumor saying the Nexus 5 will the first smartphone in the world to ship with a MEMS camera. Even though the rumor was questionable from day zero, it was recently dismissed by the developer of the said camera technology.
DigitalOptics has issued an official press statement that dismissed the rumors saying that the next smartphone co-developed by Google and LG will sport a MEMS camera.
Moreover, a DigitalOptics revealed that the first manufacturer to include a MEMS camera on its smartphones will be Oppo. “We are proud to announce that OPPO and DOC are exclusive launch partners,” said John Thode, president of DigitalOptics Corporation. “OPPO will be the first smartphone OEM to incorporate mems|cam products in volume,” he added.
The MEMS camera developer failed to announce the name of the future Oppo smartphone that will include the new technology, but hinted that it will be a high-end device. “Integrating mems|cam modules into OPPO’s best-in-class smartphones will bring an exciting computational imaging user experience that further delivers on OPPO’s brand promise.”
