Verizon released today the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OTA Update for their Galaxy Nexus device. In case your VZW Galaxy Nexus didn’t receive the Upgrade alert then you should wait as you will get it in the next few hours. You will get the OTA Update only in case your device is 100% stock, which means no root, no unlocked bootloader nor any other customization.
Verizon Galaxy Nexus users will now be able to use the latest Photosphere camera that allows you to take 360 degree panorama pictures, it adds new photo filters, borders and many other photo customization features. Also, with the new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system you will get the Swype gesture keyboard, which allows you to slide between letters and write entire words with just a single swipe of the keyboard.
The other main features of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean brings support for adding new lockscreen widgets. Google Now has also been improved and you will get better traffic info, weather is more accurate, sports info and multiple others more. The Google-based applications such as Gmail, Clock, Calendar have been greatly improved.
The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean has the JDQ39 firmware and you should receive the OTA Update notification today. If the new update doesn’t show up on your notifications panel, then you should open the Settings menu, then About Phone and check the info listed under the ‘System Updates’ section. Confirm that you want to download and install the latest Jelly Bean 4.2.2 firmware and the phone will reboot. After the install is complete, your device will boot into normal mode and that would be all.
If your device is not 100% stock then you won’t get the official update notification. But, you can update the phone by manually updating the phone using Odin. It should be posted at this section here in the next couple of days. Alternatively, you can choose to flash the leaked variant of this firmware but it might lack some features of the official one.
