OnePlus has finally confirmed that it will be releasing its next flagship smartphone at an online event on the 20th of this month. Along with the confirmation, the company has also released its first video teaser for the upcoming flagship, titled “Aim for 5”.
The video teaser for the OnePlus doesn’t reveal much at all, except that the company is aiming for a 5-star rating from reviewers as well as customers. While we’re not completely hopeful of that turning out as planned, we are fairly certain that OnePlus will definitely impress everyone with the OnePlus 5 later this month. In India, OnePlus will unveil the OnePlus 5 at a dedicated event on the 22nd of this month. In its home country of China, OnePlus is hosting a local event on the 21st.
While we still need to wait roughly two weeks for the OnePlus 5 to go official, a purported press render of the upcoming flagship has been leaked online today, courtesy of the folks over at Android Police. The render confirms the OnePlus 5 is going to sport a dual-camera setup at the rear, with the two sensors laid out horizontally, similar to what we have seen on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. In fact, the entire back of the handset appears to be very much “inspired” by the iPhone 7 Plus, just like Oppo’s new R11 smartphone. On the side, we can see the volume rocker as well as the signature OnePlus mute switch.
In terms of hardware specs, the only thing that is confirmed currently is that the smartphone will run on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset under the hood. Since the OnePlus 3T comes with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, we are expecting the OnePlus 5 to include at least the same amount of RAM. Some rumors suggest the handset will be equipped with a whopping 8GB of RAM, but we will need to wait until the 20th to find out if they turn out to be accurate or not.
