Stability Improvement OTA Update Released for the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300
Like any other version of the Android system, the Galaxy S3 one is having some bugs and issues, which has been reported by users several times now. It’s really bad to see this happen especially if we are talking about the most powerful and popular smartphone available nowadays. Apparently this is Samsung’s opinion too, as today the company released a new OTA update for the Galaxy S3 devices. Well, not all the S3 will receive the improvement as the firmware is suitable only for the international model (number GT-I9300) of the already mentioned handset.
Unfortunately, this is not the Jelly Bean ROM which we all expect; furthermore, don’t expect to receive important features or any other capabilities as this update will come only for resolving some reported bugs, “cell standby” battery drain issue included, the software being a stability improvement one. Anyway, the new OS is named XXLH1 and can be OTA (Over The Air) received and applied. Of course you can use Samsung KIES for the same operations, though in this case a Windows running computer with KEIS installed and with Internet connection enabled will be required. Also, you can update the SGS3 regardless the ROM it’s currently using.
So, if you had recently installed a Jelly Bean based custom ROM (like CM 10) into its system, now you will be able to return to the official and stock ROM. Also, the warranty will be restored as the factory restrictions will be reinstalled and the bootloader relocked. Unfortunately, by updating to XXLH1, the root access will be revoked so you will have to re-root the S3 afterwards. Anyway, if you are interested in flashing a custom or beta ROM on your Samsung Galaxy S3, then don’t hesitate and check out our how to section as there are available numerous step by step guides suitable for your smartphone.
Now, as stated, the stability improvement update has just been released for the international model GT-I9300 of the Samsung Galaxy S3, so you can anytime OTA receive it. If you haven’t spotted it yet, just go to “Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update” and tap on “Update Now”, or use a computer to download Samsung KIES and then use the same for receiving the XXLH1 the firmware. That was all for now; stay close as we will bring news as soon as something fresh comes out.
