Samsung Galaxy K Zoom Announced: 20.7 MP Camera with 10x Optical Zoom and hexa-core Exynos CPU

The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is now officially official and just like everybody anticipated it arrives with solid upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The first thing you’ll probably notice about the Galaxy K Zoom is the sleeker design, but we’ll get to that later.

For some reason, the Galaxy K Zoom no longer identifies with the Galaxy S5 family, with the “K” letter apparently standing for “Kamera.”

Hardware-wise the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom upgrades almost all the specifications of its successor. The handset is underpinned by a hexa-core Exynos 5260 chipset based on four 1.3 GHz cores and two 1.7 GHz cores, the same chipset Samsung used for the Note 3 Neo mid-range phablet. The Galaxy K Zoom technical specifications also include 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of native storage, and support for microSD cards. The display of the new camera phone was also upgraded to a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED panel.

Samsung Galaxy K also received a larger camera sensor: a 20.7 MP unit (16.3 MP on its predecessor) with 1.12 micro pixel size, 4.4 – 44mm focal length, F/3.1-F/6.3 aperture, 10X optical zoom, a Xenon flash, and optical image stabilization. K Zoom runs Android 4.4 out of the box with TouchWiz UI on top of it and not less than 28 shooting modes. By far the most interesting feature is Pro Suggest, which is capable of recommending you five photo filters based on the shooting conditions.

As I was mentioning above, the Galaxy K Zoom is sleeker than its predecessor, which, let’s face it, looked like a point-and-shoot camera was glued on the back of a Galaxy S4. K Zoom has the same dimpled texture as the Galaxy S5 and comes with a shrunken lens module on the back. Because it has to accommodate a significantly larger screen, the K Zoom measures 137.5 x 70.8 x 20.2 mm being larger than its predecessor.

Connectivity wise, the new Samsung camera phone arrives with WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, USB 2.0, NFC, A-GPS + GLONASS, LTE, and 3G. A 2,430 mAh battery it’s keeping Galaxy K Zoom’s lights up.

Samsung has not yet released pricing and availability details for the Galaxy K zoom.
