Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Should Be Rolled out in the Coming Weeks

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4.2 update is just around the corner, or at least that’s what all the signs are pointing at. After the official Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 update was spotted last week rolling out in France, the new Galaxy S3 firmware should also be on its way.

About a month and a half ago, a Samsung document saying that both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates will be released in April – May time frame leaked online. Back then everybody was skeptical about the authenticity of the document, but it looks like it was spot-on after all.

Because the Android 4.4.2 for Note 2 was released late April, just like the aforementioned document said, we have strong reasons to believe the the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update should be released by the end of May, too.

What will the KitKat update bring for Galaxy S3? No one knows for sure, but we could make a safe guess based on the features it brought on other Galaxy devices. We’re expecting the new release to arrive with transparent status bar, white status bar icons, cloud printing, color emoji support, full screen album art in the lockscreen, better power management, enhanced Samsung Keyboard, updated Samsung native apps, and other such goodies.

As soon as the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S3 will be made available for download and after you device becomes eligible to receive it, you should be able to spot a system update message in the notification area of your S3. If the system update notification fails to show up, you should also perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates. Sometimes, new updates can also be found using KIES: grab the USB cable, connect your S3 to the PC, launch KIES and check for the update through it.

well I for one would welcome the update! I left Motorola for Samsung because Motorola was in my opinion was good for “jipping” it’s consumers on OS updates to their devices. it’s the one of the things (of several) that Samsung has not disappointed me as a buyer on…no matter how long the wait…they have delivered the updates more consistently than Motorola and that’s why I’m with Samsung for the duration! AND my entire family uses Samsung devices now.

It was a very long wait though. Kitkat was announced a long time ago, and Google IO with a new Android version is just around the corner…
When Google announces the new version, I will update to it via a custom Rom.

I don’t understand what you mean. Even though I’m quite good in English, it’s not my main native language.

how i can update my s3 to 4.4x… is it working fine..?

          • Arslan

any other custom way for s3 update?

          • Android Developer

Sure there are ways, but they are not Samsung’s based Roms.
First, you need to check exactly what is the model name of your device (via “About”). Mine is I9300 .
Then, you need to search on Google about your model name for installation instructions of how to install a custom rom.
For example, I would search for “I9300 install custom rom” , or “I9300 how to update to 4.4 AOSP” .
Do everything very carefully. Also try to backup whatever you can before you start anything.
You can search for available custom roms on many websites. I like “Unlockr” , but you can also find many on “XDA” website.

Me too! Ever since 3 years old Galaxy S2 got JellyBean, I was shocked. Most manufacturers usually drop support after 1 or 2 years. Samsung is putting out great phones left and right but are still taking care of the older phones. That means a lot to me. Samsung is the best manufacturer. Thats why Im staying with Samsung!

still waiting for the Note 2 update in Italy so i think most will have to wait a couple of months for the S3 to get it since it’s rolling out very slowly for note 2.

I purchased s3 mobile one week ago, i love to stay wid s3,, even if it 2 year older device.. awesome mobile.. Sami you always rock in the market..

It is as simple as this. If Samsung provides the 4.4 update for my i9300 S3, my next phone will probably be another Samsung (S5 or Note 3/4) just for the improved performance from LTE. If they do not, I will switch to LG or Sony.
