As you probably know, the Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship will receive a couple of special versions, with a Galaxy S4 Mini and a Galaxy S4 Zoom (with 16 megapixel camera) among them. It seems that a water and dust proof model will also join the line-up soon, unofficially dubbed Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The later one was the subject of some leaked photos.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active I9295 has made the headlines a couple of weeks ago, after the first rumors and technical specs leaked, but these are the first photos of the terminal. Rumor has it that the smartphone will come with a quad-core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.9 GHz, Adreno 320 GPU and that it will keep the 5-inch full HD display from the original model. The chipset is most likely the Snpadragon 600 unit that is underpinning the Galaxy S4 I9505, while the display, even though it’s not mentioned, it will probably be a Super AMOLED unit.
It’s interesting though that GSMArena reports that the pixel density is 480 ppi, thus the screen size might be smaller than 5 inches. A source close to Samsung confirmed that there will be an 8 megapixel camera mounted on the back of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, instead of the 13 megapixel sensor of the Galaxy S4. The design will be way different from the one of the Galaxy S4, as the SGS4 Active comes with a metallic body and three hardware buttons below the display.
Even though the guys at GSMArena didn’t mention about the Android version running on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the second photo reveals that the water and dust proof model will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, of course, customized with Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX.
The technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active recommend it as a high-end smartphone, and if the price is at least $150 lower than the one of the Samsung Galaxy S4 I guess some of the customers might get over the 8 megapixel camera and go for the water proof variant of the flagship. Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will be a smartphone that will cannibalize the sales of the original Galaxy S4? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
