Rumor has it that South Korean phone maker might announce a cameraphone variant of the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S4, equipped with a high-performance camera, with 16 megapixel sensor and optical zoom.
The report has made the headlines courtesy of the folks at Sammobile, who claim that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be the first veritable camera phone, capable of providing the full fucionality of the Galaxy S4 model and the performance of a point-and-shoot camera. It seems that the new device will come with retractable lens. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Camera device that was announced last year, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will not be limited to the role of a camera augmented with the functionality of Android operating system.
According to the yet unconfirmed report, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will come with a display that is smaller than the one of the Galaxy S4 model, build on a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED matrix and sporting a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels.
The video and photo gallery will be stored on the 8 GB of internal storage, expandable using a microSD card of up to 64 GB.
Besides the impressive 16 megapixel camera sensor, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be a completely function smartphone, equipped with GPS module, Bluetooth 4.0, and support for WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will come pre-loaded with Android Jelly Bean, but the exact version number is unknown for the moment. There are no details about the chipset powering the new smartphone either, but it will apparently come in a dual-core or quad-core configuration, so we can speculate and say that we might be talking about the Exynos 5 Dual or Exynos 4 Quad SoC.
According to the aforementioned source the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom release date might be set for this summer.
