Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Officially Announced: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, Snapdragon 400 CPU, and LTE
The South Korea-based company didn’t want to wait until the Samsung Premiere event that will debut on June 20th in London and officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. The official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has confirmed almost all the rumors that hit the web over the past couple of weeks.
As everybody was anticipating the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini looks like a shrunken Galaxy S4 and the back lid has the speaker and the camera placed in the same spot. In terms of specifications the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini fits perfectly into the mid-range Android smartphone segment. Let’s have a look at the terminal’s technical specs.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 540×960 while running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz Nature UX out of the box. The Smartphone is underpinned by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8930 chipset with two Krait 200 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz, Adreno 305 GPU and 2 GB of RAM (1.5 GB for the noin-LTE variant).
The new mid-end smartphone has 8 GB of internal storage expandable using microSD cards of up to 64 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has an 8 megapixel primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, while the front-facing camera has a 1.9 megapixel sensor.
In terms of connectivity the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini brings WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC chip, IR blaster, and microUSB 2.0. The new smartphone is 124.6 mm tall, 61.3 mm wide and and 9 mm thick, while weighing 107 grams.
Even though the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini was officially announced there are still a couple of uncertain aspects regarding the new smartphone. The South Korean phone maker didn’t mention whether it can record full HD videos or not. It would be a shame if the Galaxy S4 Mini doesn’t come with full HD video recording support, as the processor is powerful enough and the camera sensor is capable of 1080p resolutions. In the official press statement regarding the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 it was mentioned there will be three variants hitting the market: one with 4G LTE support, one with HSPA+ capabilities, and a 3G Dual-SIM model. The first wan will also come with a NFC chip. Samsung didn’t mention which markets will receive the 3G and the Dual-SIM variants.
In terms of specifications, Samsung has positioned the Galaxy S4 Mini model below the Galaxy S3. The previous generation Samsung flagship smartphone is still selling well and the Asian phone maker would not want its sales cannibalized by the Galaxy S4 Mini. In terms of construction, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is one of the most attractive 4.3-inch smartphones. With a weight of only 107 grams, it is also one of the lightest smartphones on the markets.
Anyway, not all the features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 were included in the software of the Galaxy S4 Mini. Besides the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Nature UX, the mid-end handset also sports Panorama Shot, Sound and Shot, and Story Album.
The prices of the three Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini variants were not officially revealed. The release date of the smartphone is also uncertain, but we are not expecting it to debut sooner than June 20th. The smartphone will be available in two body colors: White Frost and Black Mist.
