It’s clear that now with the Samsung Galaxy S4 being almost available for purchase, everybody is waiting for it to be released in their country. The Galaxy S4 is probably the most popular smartphone of 2013, and the question is that despite of its popularity, is it better than the other flagships launched this year. The guys from online tech publication Primate Labs are giving us the answer though a set of benchmark tests. They have tested several flagship smartphones namely the HTC One, both versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3, the BlackBerry Z10, the LG Nexus 4, the iPhone 5, and of course the Galaxy S4.
The test results were obtained using the Geekbench 2 application, and as you probably would have expected, the Samsung Galaxy S4 got the best result out of the mentioned smartphones, managing to score 3163 points. The second place was obtained by the newest HTC high-end device, the HTC One with 2687 points, followed by the current Google flagship, the LG Nexus 4, which managed to score a decent number of 2040 even though it was launched last year.
The 4th place is occupied by the international version of the Galaxy S3 powered by the Exynos 4 Quad CPU with a score of 1717, followed by Apple’s iPhone 5, which managed the “great performance” of scoring half the pints of the Galaxy S4, 1596. Finally, the Blackberry z10 comes in last with 1480 points, if we don’t take the US variant of the Galaxy S3 variant into consideration, the latter scoring only 1410.
It is worth mentioning that the benchmark test was made with the Samsung Galaxy S4 powered by the Snapdragon 600 CPU that is going to be sold in North America and Sweden. The international version that sports the Exynos 5 Octa would have a better score, at least in theory. In spite of the fact that the iPhone 5 was launched several months ago, you would expect that Apple’s flagship to do a little bit better. Also, I don’t know why some people seem to be surprised that the iPhone 5 was beaten by the Galaxy S3, as it is known that the Exynos 4 Quad is more powerful that the processor of the iPhone 5.
Looking at the benchmark, we can realize that the performances of the smartphones are getting way better as time passes by. Even tough, the Galaxy S3 was released just a year ago, it only managed to score half the points of the Galaxy S4. Not to mention that the first iPhone ever released obtained a score of 130 points, which makes the current technology light years away from the one existent a few years back.
Despite that the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is more than impressive, the company has highlighted its new camera and its software at the New York Unpacked event, which means that the features of the smartphone will be awesome as well.
We will provide you with detailed information about the software of the Samsung Galaxy S4 as soon as we get out hands on it. We remind you that the handset will be firstly released in the UK with EE being the first mobile operator to make it available for purchase.
