Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Announced: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and 16MP Camera with 10x Optical Zoom
Step by step, Samsung is confirming all the rumors that made the headlines over the past couple of months and announces new models of the Galaxy S4 line-up of devices. The first devices was the flagship smartphone, the highly appreciated Samsung Galaxy S4 that managed to sell 10 millions of unit in less then a month after the market debut. It was followed by the compact Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and the water and dust proof Samsung Galaxy S4 active. Now, the South Korea-based company officially introduced the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, a camera phone that is equipped with a camera unit that sports a 16 megapxiel sensor with 10x optical zoom.
Just like the previous rumors were suggesting, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is just a bit wider and taller than the Galaxy S4 Mini, but the back of the camera phone is accommodating an impressive camera sensor that is considerably increasing it’s weight and thickness. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is 125.5 mm tall, 63.5 mm wide and 15.4 mm thick, while weighing 208 grams. For the record, the Galaxy S4 Mini measures 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm.
The new arrival of the Galaxy S4 range of devices, the Galaxy S4 Zoom is based on a dual-core Exynos 4212 processor that is clocked at 1.5 GHz, while sporting a Super AMOLED display measuring 4.3-inches diagonally and boasting a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom technical specs list also includes 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage (expandable using microSD cards of up to 64 GB), and connectivity features like WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, HSPA+ and LTE module, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, IR blaster, and microUSB 2.0. All these are kept alive by a 2,330 mAh battery.
Anyway, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is not failing to impress when it comes to the camera capabilities. The smartphone has been equipped with a 1/2.3″ sensor with a resolution of 16 megapixels, optical image stabilizer, Xenon flash, and a lens with 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-240mm, while the aperture ranges from f3.1 to f6.3, providing an optical zoom of 10x. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is capable of recording full HD videos and snapping HDR photos with continuous autofocus. The user-facing camera has a 1.9 megapixel sensor and it might be handy when it comes to video calls.
Visibly heavier and thicker than other mobile terminals on the market, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom aims at the customers who are searching for a smartphone with a great camera, but are willing to sacrifice the weight and thickness aspects of the device.
The new camera phone presented by the South Korea-based company will leave the factory gates pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, customized with the company’s proprietary TouchWiz Nature UX interface. Besides the Galaxy S4-specific camera features like Beauty face, Best photo, Continuous shot, Best face, Kids shot, Landscape, or Panorama, the S4 Zoom will also integrate a Zoom Ring mode that will allow the user to activate the camera during a call, snap a photo, then send it via MMS to its call partner.
