As the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date draws near, more information about the company’s next-gen flagship smartphone is starting to surface on the web. This time the details come from some of Samsung’s top executives and besides hinting about the Galaxy S5 release date, they also talked about the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Gear follow-up.
Executive Vice President of Samsung Mobile, has told Bloomberg that the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will be around March and April: “We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” said Lee Young Hee. The statement puts an end to the rumors saying that the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date has been set for MWC 2014.
Samsung’s officials also talked about other highly-anticipated products of the Korean company. The company’s Head of Design, Dennis Miloseski, said that the Galaxy Gear successor will debut synchronized with the Galaxy S5, bringing improved design and “more advanced functions.”
Lee Young Hee also talked about the designed of the Samsung Galaxy S5. She said that they are planning to “go back to the basics,” and completely revise the design of their 2014 flagship, as the Galaxy S4 customers “consumers couldn’t really feel much difference between the two products [Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4] from the physical perspective.” The Samsung exec added that the Galaxy S5 will be “very different” in terms of design.
The rumor mill speculates that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will come with iris scanning technology. When asked about the matter, Samsung’s officials said that the company is “considering the possibility.” So will the GS5 come with an iris scanner? It’s hard to say at the moment, but, in my opinion, we’ll definitely get to see a fingerprint scanner to compete with iPhone 5S’.
Lee also said that the Galaxy Note 4 will get a new design, with three-sided flexible display. We can’t know yet how it will look like, but it will probably be a reminiscent of the Galaxy YOUM prototype Samsung showcased at CES 2013.
The rumor mill speculates that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will come with a 5.2-inch 2K AMOLED display, 16 MP rear-facing camera, and an octo-core Exynos processor with 64-bit architecture. Recent reports indicated that Samsung is also planning to redesign the TouchWiz interface with a flatter design in order to align it to the more modern look of KitKat.
