Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6, Who Will Win?

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been officially revealed and Apple fans are now waiting for the iPhone 6 to be released later this year. But which one of the two flagships is going to win the fight ?

We already know exactly the Galaxy S5’s specs and it’s a really powerful device with a lot of new features, but there are only rumors about the iPhone 6 for the moment. We are going to compare the two devices based on what we know about the Galaxy S5 and the rumors about the iPhone 6.

The Galaxy S5 is pretty similar to the old Galaxy S4, but we expect the iPhone 6 to be something totally new, with a different design and a bigger display, which could really hurt Samsung’s sales. Fortunately for Samsung, the iPhone 6 should be released in autumn, which means it has enough time until they will compete directly.

Now let’s start comparing them by design, hardware, software, display, camera and features. There’s nothing sure yet about the iPhone 6, but usually the rumors are true, so we can’t be very wrong.

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 looks pretty similar to the Galaxy S4 and it comes with a slightly bigger display, which doesn’t make a big difference. It’s still made of plastic, which doesn’t make it look as premium as the iPhone. It still features the physical button and the two softkeys on the front, while the other buttons, slots and ports remained the same.

When it comes to design and build, the difference is that Galaxy S5 is now water and dust resistant and it has a cover on the microUSB port to protect it from water.

It’s rumored that at least a version of the new iPhone 6 will come with a 4.8 to 5-inch display, which seems like a good move, considering that all the other flagships have bigger displays. This means it will be much bigger than the iPhone 5S, bringing its size closer to the Galaxy S5.

iPhone 6 2

Above all this, the iPhone 6 will be much thinner and it will come with an all-new design. It should keep the same aluminium build and the physical button, but it might look more modern, with a thinner bezel and an 1080p display.

Even if our website is related to Android, the Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6 winner will be the latter, because it does look much better and it does look premium, thanks to its aluminium build and design. Samsung has never been very good at designing their smartphones, even though they’ve improved a lot with the Galaxy Note 3.

Until now, Apple has always lagged behind Samsung when it came to hardware and we don’t really expect this to change. The iOS is different from Android and it might not need so powerful hardware to run smoothly.

The iPhone 6 should come with a 64-bit A7X or A8 processor, which might even remain dual-core as it’s now, but with a higher clock speed. If you compare that to Samsung’s 2.5Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, it seems so outdated, but the iPhone has always been very fast.

The Galaxy S5 comes with 2GB of RAM and we don’t expect the iPhone 6 to come with more than 1GB. We did expect the Galaxy S5 to come with 3GB, though, like the Galaxy Note 3, but it seems like Samsung felt that’s enough.

In terms of storage, the Galaxy S5 comes with either 16GB or 32GB and we expect the iPhone 6 to have three variants: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Samsung’s advantage is the microSD card slot, which allows the user to increase the storage by up to 128GB, while the iPhone has never had a microSD card slot and we don’t expect that to change.

So who wins the Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6 fight when it comes to hardware ? We think the Galaxy S5, because Apple has always tried to keep their costs down by not using the most high-end components.

There’s way too much to talk about iOS 7 vs Android 4.4.2 KitKat, especially if you also add TouchWiz on top of that. But we’ll try to keep things simple and compare only the biggest differences.

Android’s biggest advantage is that it’s an open operating system which allows users to do basically everything they want with their smartphone. If you add the ability to root on top of that, then you can really say you own the device. Unfortunately the iPhone is very restrictive with the user, jailbreaking becomes harder and harder, so the user can’t do much over what Apple wants to allow him to.

Fortunately for the iPhone 6, the iOS 7 seems more stable than Android, especially with TouchWiz, and that’s a big plus for Apple. Android seems faster and smoother than iOS, but only on Nexus smartphones. TouchWiz really makes it much slower and buggy and we will have to give a few points to the iPhone 6 for that.

I am going to call this fight a tie, considering they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I might be a bit biased because I love to root and hack my devices and that wouldn’t be possible with an iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S5 heart sensor

I’m going to tell you from the start that when it comes to features, the Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6 fight it’s won easily by Samsung. TouchWiz comes with a lot of unique features that can’t be found on any other smartphones, except maybe a few other Samsung devices. The Galaxy S5 features a heart rate sensor, along with all the features that track your eye and hand movements.

The iPhone 6 is a pretty simple device, which doesn’t try to do much, but they try to do it well instead. Apple has ever tried to keep their products as simple as possible, with a easy to use interface that just works. while Samsung is trying to innovate and comes with really cool features that not always work like they should, but they feel really great.

The Galaxy S5’s biggest improvement might be its camera. It’s a really high quality camera, with a lot of software features that makes it very versatile. Unfortunately we don’t know much about the iPhone 6’s camera, but we really believe Apple will do the same thing and try to improve its camera as much as possible.

We expect the iPhone 6’s camera to be on par with the one found on the Galaxy S5, because they couldn’t keep the device very thin and add a huge camera to it. We’ve seen that Nokia has the best smartphone cameras, but they are also huge and we don’t think Apple would agree to that.

We’re going to call the camera fight a tie, especially that we really don’t know much about Apple’s plans when it comes to this.

We’ve declared the Samsung Galaxy S5 better when it comes to hardware and features, while the Apple iPhone 6 is most likely going to have a better design. We considered the camera and software to be a tie. And this means the Galaxy S5 is a winner, but not by much.
