Sony has yet to release the Xperia Z on the global markets as the phone is available only in Japan, for now. The interesting is that there are rumors about a brand new high-end device that will be included in the Xperia line. An unknown handset with the model number C6802 is surfacing the web. The above photo features the phone doing an HTML5 test and will probably going to be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
If we judge the flagship only by the model number, the new product that Sony is preparing for us will be even better than the upcoming Xperia Z which has the model number C660X. There isn’t much information regarding the technical specifications, but the report specifies that it will sport a display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Of course, the specs are similar with the ones of the Sony Xperia Z, but being a flagship the company will surely make some upgrades to the processor, RAM and probably battery.
The C6802 is probably a 3G-only variant of the smartphone, but we expect the other models to show themselves soon enough. However, you should not get too excited because this is just a leaked images, we are not sure if it real or not, although with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, Sony should prepare its new flagship as well because I don’t think the Xperia T has the juice to compete with them.
As for the screenshot, we don’t even know the source who posted it in the first place. Anyone with a little Photoshop skill could have edited it completely or just the ID and user agent. The again, we have to think happy thoughts and be less suspicious. After all, it’s hard to believe that Sony will only launch one high-end device this year because if the company wants to remain in the game it has to release products on a regular basis, especially when the rivals are about to come up with new and powerful hardware such as Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 5, NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 and 800.
Anyway, we’ll leave time pass and we’ll see if this screenshot is the real deal. There is no doubt that will hear more about Sony’s next smartphone in the near future. I’me very curious what kind of hardware it will sport.
