NTT Docomo has announced the annual summer lineup and important handsets have been revealed on the Japanese carrier. So, as previously rumored, the Sony Xperia A has been confirmed by NTT Docomo and furthermore now we know that the Xperia ZR-like smartphone will be released during the next few days.
The Xperia A is not a new phone as details about the same have been previously leaked, though until now, news about its official launch date weren’t available. Anyway, thanks to the NTT Docomo official webpage now we do know that the Android Jelly Bean based handset will be released on May 17, which is in two days by the way. So, if you are interested in getting a mid-range to high end device, then consider in buying the Xperia A.
With the Xperia A, Sony wanted to make a new Sony Xperia Z look like phone, though if we take a closer look we can tell that the phone is smaller and not that powerful than Sony’s flagship. Actually, the A is extremely similar in specs and features with the Xperia ZR, a device which has been globally announced just a few days ago.
Anyway, the phone is coming with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, a720p 4.6 inch display, a 13 MP rear facing camera, 4G LTE support, 16 GB of internal storage, a 2300 mAh battery and the Android system with Jelly Bean 4.1 OS on top of all. Of course an Android 4.2 update has been already promised by Sony, the OTA being expected sometime during August, or early September.
As already stated, the Xperia A will be released on NTT Docomo on May 17th, the phone being offered in white, black, pink and “mint” colors. Remember that this is not the only Android based handset that will embrace the Japanese carrier, the Jelly Bean 4.2 powered LG Optimus it being also prepared for the future customers. So, what do you say, are you going to buy this new Sony branded phone, or you rather choose a different, maybe even more powerful, device?
