The Sony Xperia Honami was caught on camera once more, the alleged camera phone being compared in a new batch of leaked photos with the Sony Xperia Z flagship. The new Sony smartphone, also known as Honami i1, that will reportedly pack a 20 megapixel camera, will not come with water and dust protection, according to sources quoted by Android Community.
As you can see in the gallery below, the Sony Xperia Honami is slightly taller than the Xperia Z, but in the same time it seems to be a bit thinner than the Sony flagship smartphone introduced at MWC 2013. The Sony Xperia Honami also seems to have ditched the aluminium bezel around the edges of the Xperia Z.
According to the latest rumors the Sony Xperia Honami will sport a 5-inch full HD display with Triluminous technology, while the new leaked photos have also revealed an Augmented Reality camera mode. The Augmented Reality model will allow the user to add fantasy elements in his photos, like a dinosaur next to a volcano and other stuff like this.
The same camera app will also integrate a Superior Auto feature, a new model that adjust the camera settings to provide the best quality based on the environment. You can also see the Social Live service, which is most likely related to photo sharing.
Sources say that the Sony Xperia Honami will sport a Snapdragon 800 SoC, Qualcomm’s mighy processing solution based on a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. Since the Snapdragon 800 chipset is a major upgrade form Snapdragon S4 Pro unit fitted inside the Xperia Z, the Xperia Honami might become the new flagship smartphone of the Sony line-up.
Anyway, besides the powerful hardware platform the 20 megapixel camera with Sony G Lens will be one of the major selling points of the new smartphone. Either way, the Sony Xperia Honami will have at least two powerful camera phones to fight with on the market. I am talking about Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Zoom which boasts a 16 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom and Nokia’s freshly launched Lumia 1020 that packs an impressive 41 megapixel PureView sensor.
Well, since the Sony Xperia Honami will be a smartphone circa 2013 expect it to sport all the connectivity features worthy of a high-end handset. Therefore, don’t be surprised to hear that the Xperia Honami will come with features like HSDPA, 42.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps; LTE-A, Cat4, 50 Mbps UL, 150 Mbps DL, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Yes, v4.0 with A2DP, EDR, LE, NFC chip, Yes, microUSB v2.0 (MHL 2), USB On-the-go, USB Host, and even an infra red blaster since both Samsung and HTC fitted one on their flagships, the Galaxy S4 and One, respectively.
There are official confirmations regarding the Sony Xperia Honami release date, but you should expect the high-end camera phone to see the light of day at IFA Berlin 2013 tech fair.
