After the Sony Xperia Z Ultra giant, a smartphone with a 6.44-inch display, the Japan-based company is readying a new handset with more reasonable dimensions, but with specifications that will definitely attract most of the high-end Android smartphone enthusiasts. Known internal as Honami, the New Xperia i1 is bigger and apparently more powerful than the Xperia Z flagship that was introduced in January at CES 2013 event.
According to yet-unconfirmed reports, the Sony Xperia Honami i1 will boast a 5.4-inch display and, since it will be a high-end of 2013, it will come with full HD resolution. Anyway, the main selling point of the Sony Xperia Honami i1 will be the 20 megapixel camera that packs a LED flash.
The hardware platform of the camera phone belonging to the Sony Xperia line-up will be based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, with quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. Unlike the Xperia Z, which came pre-loaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the Xperia Honami i1 will reportedly run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. The rumor mill also speculates about the Xperia Honami amount of RAM and internal storage, therefore expect the handset to sport 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
Moreover, recent leaked photos of the Sony Xperia Honami have revealed that the terminal will come with a microSD card slot that is hidden under a rubber lid, probably because the smartphone will be moth water and dust proof.
The list of connectivity features of the Sony Xperia Honami i1 includes 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC chip, WiFi in all standards, and an infra red blaster which is capable of transforming the smartphone into a remote control.
According to the latest rumors, the Sony Xperia i1 will hide a 2,700 mAh battery underneath the water and dust proof case, which should be capable of keeping the smartphone awake through a whole day of moderate usage, even though the handset comes with a powerful CPU and full HD 5.4-inch display.
Since we are talking about unofficial reports, the aforementioned specs might not be the same with the ones unveiled by Sony when the Xperia Honami i1 will be officially introduced, therefore we are recommending you to take them with a pinch of salt.
Rumor has it that the Xperia Honami and its 20 megapixel camera will help Sony revive the CyberShot brand and, in the same time, put some pressure on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom or the Nokia EOS, the successor of the 808 PureView model.
According to recent speculations, the Japan-based company will unveil the new Xperia i1 Honami during a press event scheduled to open its gates on July 4th in Paris. Anyway, there are also voices saying that Xperia Honami will be officially announced at the IFA Berlin 2013 event that is set to debut on September 6th. Since the rumors regarding the Sony Xperia Honami i1 are intensifying lately, we are tempted to believe that the release date of the camera phone is near, as its debut at the Paris-based event seems more plausible.
The press photos in the gallery below are allegedly showing the international version of the Sony Xperia Honami i1, as well as the variant that will debut at NTT Docomo Japanese carrier soon after the handset is officially introduced. The leaked press photos of the Sony Xperia Honami i1 are revealing the same design we were able to get a look at when the terminal previously leaked.
