It looks like Sony is trying to steal some of Samsung Galaxy Note 3’s glory with its camera phone, as the Japanese company has scheduled the Sony Xperia Honami release date on the same day with the one of the Sammy phablet. We are talking about an event held on September 4, during IFA Berlin 2013.
How do we know it? Well, learn that a Sony Xperia Honami teaser has leaked and it seems that we are looking at an official ad that leaked on the web prematurely. Interesting enough, the terminal pictured in the teaser is different from the Xperia Honami units we’ve seen in leaked photos. In the teaser image, the edges of the Sony Xperia Honami are round like the ones of the Xperia Z Ultra, while we were expecting the camera phone to borrow the sharp edges of the Xperia Z flagship.
As you can see in the gallery bellow, the Sony Xperia Honami pictured in the teaser has a purple body. The teaser also reveals that the Xperia Honami will not use a glass body like the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra, but rather an aluminium case. You can also notice the big metallic Power button that’s already like a Sony Xperia trademark.
The rumor mill speculates that the major selling point of the new Sony Xperia Honami will be it’s camera unit, which will boast about a 20 megapixel sensor with Sony G Lens. Even though the 20 megapixel camera of the Xperia Honami promises great performance, we shouldn’t forget that the Sony camera phone will have to fight off two powerful rivals: Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and its 16 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom and Nokia’s Lumia 1020 and its amazing 41 megapixel camera with PureView sensor and Carl Zeiss optics.
But it seems that the Sony Xperia Honami has its ace up the sleeve: the hardware platform which, according to the rumors, will make even the most powerful smartphones on the market shiver. Sources say that besides 2 GB of RAM, the Xperia Honami will pack Qualcomm’s impressive Snapdragon 800 chipset with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU.
Word has it that the Sony Xperia Honami will sport a 5-inch Triluminos display and since we’re talking about a high-end smartphone circa 2013, the 1080p resolution will also be available. Unlike the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia Honami will not be water and dust resistant.
