Sony has already launched two high-end smartphones this year, the Xperia Z, which is the company’s flagship smartphone, and the Xperia Z Ultra, Sony’s first phablet that aims at Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3. The Japanese phone maker is expected to announce a new high-end smartphone at IFA 2013 a tech fair that will open its gates for the public in two weeks. We are talking about Sony Xperia Honami, one of the smartphones that made the headlines over the past couple of months and whose press photos leaked a few hours ago.
According to a tweet by @DooMLoRD_XDA the official name of the Xperia Honami will actually be Sony Xperia Z1 or Z One. The leaked press photos reveal that the smartphone will be available in three body colors: black, silver, and purple, and that the Japanese company has kept the design lies of the Xperia Z. As far as we can see from the leaked photos the Gorilla Glass back has been kept, while its corners have been slightly rounded.
As you probably know, the Sony Xperia Z1 is expected to be a camera phone boasting a 20.7 megapixel sensor with Sony G Lens, LED and Xenon flash and, according to recent reports, support for 4K video recording.
It seems that the Xperia Z1 will be a power beast as the rumor mill speculates that it will be powered by Qualcomm’s might Snapdragon 800 chipset based on four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. The Xperia Z1 technical specifications list also includes 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage (expandable using microSD cards of up to 64 GB), and a 5-inch full HD display with Trilumios technology.
As about the alleged Sony Xperia Z1 leaked press photos, the size of the sensor is raising some question marks, because it seems too small to host over 20 megapixels, while the LED or Xenon flash is tiny.
I guess that we will get to see even more Sony Xperia Z1 leaks as we near its launch event. The Sony camera phone will be officially introduced on September 4th, on the same day Samsung, ASUS, or HTC are expected to unveil new products.
The Sony Xperia Z1 will have a couple of powerful competitors on the market: Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Zoom which comes with 16 megapixel sensor with 10x optical zoom and Nokia’s Lumia 1020 flagship with its 41 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and PureView technology.
Anyway, compared to the two aforementioned camera phones, the Xperia Z1 is the most powerful one in terms of hardware specifications and, if the price is right, its specs might be one of its major selling points.
Are you planing to purchase the upcoming Sony Xperia Z1 or you don’t care about a smartphone’s camera performance?
