In case you are looking for a mid-range smartphone built from quality materials, you can opt for the Sony Xperia SP. The device is making is way in the worldwide markets, and as of yesterday it has been made available for purchase in the United Kingdom.
Even though the SP is the cheaper version of the Xperia Z, it doesn’t meant that it won’t come with great technical specifications. In case you don’t know, the device is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Plus dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, which comes along with an Adreno 329 GPU capable of 3D processing, and 1 GB of RAM. As you may expect, the Xperia SP has a smaller display than its bigger brother, 4.6 inches to be exact, and has a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720.
Also, the device sports two cameras, an 8 MP one located on the back, and a 0.3 MP placed on the front of the phone. In terms of internal storage, the Xperia SP includes 8 GB, but it can be expanded if you also buy a microSD card. Another mentionable piece of hardware is the battery, which is a 2370 mAh one. As for the operating system, the Sony Xperia SP runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box.
While the specs are pretty awesome for a mid-range smartphone, the price is also in important aspect. There are many carriers stocking the handset, thus plenty of offers as well. Anyway, T-Mobile offers it with a pre-paid option for £249.99, but the mobile operator is also giving it for free with a two-year contract of £21.00 per month. Orange’s offer is similar, but it also requires a £10 top up. Orange also has an interesting two-year plan which starts at just £20.50 and offers 300 minutes and unlimited text messages, or you can opt for unlimited texts, 100 minutes and 500MB of data.
Of course, there are still a few major UK mobile operators that have not made their offers public, but will surely provide their subscribers with details in the weeks to come. In case you want to buy the unlocked version of the Sony Xperia SP, you should head to Handtec or Clove as both retailers are selling the device at good prices.
