When Sony announced the Xperia Z, the company listed several countries which were supposed to be among the first to get the device. Australia was among these countries, but unfortunately for them, the Aussies we’re lucky enough to receive the smartphone when Sony shipped the first batch of units. There is new news about the matter, but is not that good. The Sony Xperia Z will indeed hit the Australian market, but the users will have to wait until March 26.
But there is also good news as the device can already be pre-ordered from Australian carrier Telstra. The Sony Xperia Z is available in three color available. The mobile network has a surprise for its customers, as well. In case you pre-order either the white, black or purple version (which is available only online), you will also receive a NFC speaker from Telstra, for which you won’t have to pay anything. It’s a pretty good deal because the speaker normally costs $129.
The Xperia Z is available only if you sign a contract with Telstra, for now. Luckily, there are plenty of plans to choose from. The Telstra S plan is the one with the smallest monthly fee of $63. If you opt for this plan you will receive unlimited text messages and 1GB of data, among other advantages. There are other three different plans available, but you’ll have to pay more money every month. The carrier offers the M, L and XL contracts which require $80, $100 and $130 every month, but it more data is involved (ranging from 1.5GB to 3GB).
No matter what plan you choose, you won’t be required to pay any money upfront. However, you’ll have to think this through because the Sony Xperia Z comes with a 2-year contract that will cost you at least $1,512 (in case you opt for the S plan), while the XL contract will cost you double the money.
At the same time, the other two Australian networks that are expected to offer the Xperia Z haven’t even announced the price and release date of the handset, meaning that they won’t provide the device sooner than April.
The off contract version of the Xperia Z will be available for purchase in a couple of days from the online store of the phone maker, as well as from several retail stores. The off contract flagship will cost $749. Also, the smartphone’s sibling, the Sony Xperia ZL, can be already bought from MobiCity in exchange for $689 (the phone is available only in black). The carriers haven’t mentioned anything about the Xperia ZL, so don’t wait for it because it won’t come very soon.
