The Android 4.3 update is now available for download for the owners of the massive Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The news comes just a couple of days after the Android 4.3 update leaked for Xperia Z and Xperia ZL and about a week after the Japanese phone maker announced the Google Play Edition of the Xperia Z Ultra, a smartphone running Android KitKat out of the box.
The Android 4.3 update for Xperia Z Ultra has been detailed on Sony’s blog and it’s also worth mentioning that the Xperia Z1 is also receiving the new firmware. Just like it happens with the software updates, Android 4.3 for Sony Xperia Z Ultra is being rolled out in phases, and those who own unlocked devices will be the first to receive the new firmware.
Even though you own an unlocked Sony Xperia Z Ultra, you might not be able to download and install the Android 4.3 update right away. If so, you shouldn’t panic and head to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check for updates. Who knows, maybe you are lucky and you will be able to download it after performing a manual check.
According to the changelog posted on Sony’s blog, the Xperia Z Ultra Android 4.3 update will bring, Smart Social Camera from Xperia Z1, latest versions for the Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, and Sony Select apps, Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration, and Xperia Themes with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select.
To all the aforementioned features, add UI optimizations, improved performance, and, of course, bug fixes.
According to a Sony post dated November 7, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra will also get updated to Android 4.4, but for the time being there’s no ETA for the KitKat update.
