Sony Xperia Z Ultra to be Announced July 4, Aims at Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Sony is about to release a new smartphone that will allegedly have a 6.44-inch display. There have been three different rumored names for the device including Xperia ZU, Zperia Z Ultra and Togari. The company has teased the handset in a press event invite found by the folks at Xperia Blog.

As you can see in the image below, Sony will hold a press event in Paris on July 4, and we expect that the Japanese manufacturer will unveil the Sony Xperia Z Ultra during the event.

The photo displays a very thin and quite long handset, that features an on/off button of its side, which is not strange because the Xperia Z also has the button on the side, as well as other devices that Sony has recenlty launched. The side of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra also features the volume buttons, the dedicated camera button, a headphone jack, and an extra hole near the bottom.

Like most invites, this one comes with a message that says “Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you,” as well as “Do not forget to mark your calendars!”.

However, we can’t be completely sure that Sony is going to launch the Xperia Z Ultra in Paris because the company is going to host another event in Munich, on June 25. Previous reports have said that this is the event during which Sony will unveil its newest product, though the invite for this press conference does not actually show the phone.

There has been many rumors about the Sony Xperia Z Ultra over the past few weeks, with a few of them coming with alleged photos of the device. However, this image is actually the first to show it.

There is no official information about what the handset is going to be packing, but according to rumors the Sony Xperia Ultra Z will come with a 6.44-inch full HD display featuring “Triluminos with X-Reality for Mobile”, it will be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU. It will also have 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card, an 8 MP primary camera, and a 2.2 MP front-facing one. As for the OS, it is supposed to run Google’s latest, namely Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is said to measure 179.2 x 92 x 6.5mm and weigh 212g.

As soon as we have more information about the matter, we;ll be happy to share it with you.
