The Japan-based phone maker officially announced that the Sony Xperia ZL Android 4.4.2 OTA update is now available for download. The announcement comes a couple of months after Sony pushed the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra owners.
As usual, the Android 4.4.2 update for Sony Xperia ZL is being rolled out in stages, meaning that some users might have to wait a bit more until the new software hits their devices. As you may know, once your Xperia ZL becomes eligible to receive the Android 4.4.2 OTA update you should be able to see a system update message in the notification area. It’s also worth checking for the new firmware manually under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.
According to the changelog posted on Sony’s website the Xperia ZL Android 4.4.2 update arrives with KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar iconography, cloud printing, new Location menu, color emoji support, immersive mode, or full screen album art in the lock screen, along with Xperia UI-specific updates such as updated Messaging, Email, Smart Social Camera apps, or the new Battery STAMINA Mode. The new firmware also arrives with updates for Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, and has support for Sony Entertainment cloud service integration.
The users who update their Sony Xperia ZL to Android 4.4.2 will also be able to enjoy support for the company’s smart wearables and the new Xperia Themes, which would allow them to download UI packs from Sony Select.
Because the Sony Xperia ZL Android 4.4.2 OTA update might weigh more than 500 MB it’s recommended to use a WiFi connection while downloading it in order to avoid data charges.
