Rogers Taking Sony Xperia ZL Pre-Orders, Price is $675

Things are going smooth for Sony when it comes to selling its new flagship, the Xperia Z. And while the smartphone is still the company’s current best device, let’s now forget about the Xperia ZL, which except of not having the dust and water protection, it’s practically the same phone.

While the Sony Xperia ZL is already available in countries like Russia, Australia and India, it seems that the company will launch it in North America very soon. Until now the details about the release date and price of the smartphone in the United States and Canada have not been offered, but it seems that the ZL will be available in the near future in Canada.

Actually, the Canadian potential customers have the possibility of pre-ordering the Sony Xperia ZL though the company’s official online shop. If you pre-order the phone it will be shipped at your destination on April 2. This is not bad considering that there are only two weeks left until then. The bad news is that the Xperia ZL will be locked on Rogers, even if we’re talking about the off contract version of the device, which means that you will be required to activate it on the mobile operator.

The Sony Xperia ZL is being sold at a pretty fair price if $675, which is smaller than the price of the handset sold in Australia and India, not to mention Russia where the phone costs no less than $900. The unlocked version of the Xperia ZL will probably be made available as well, but it will be interesting to see of that variant will be as cheap as the Rogers locked one. The smartphone is expected to hit the shelves of all major carriers in Canada.

In the meantime, Sony hasn’t made any statements regarding the Canadian release of the Xperia Z. Unfortunately, Canada might be listed among the markets which will receive only one of the two phones. In other words, the Xperia Z may never be launched there.

I don’t know why, but the Japanese company is still keeping the release date and price of the US Version of its phones a secret. Nevertheless, according to online publication Xperia Blog which cites one of its sources, the Sony Xperia ZL will cost around $760, which seems like a lot compared to the price of the Samsung Galaxy 4, which is rumored to be sold for $100 less, and let’s face it Samsung’s flagship is a better smartphone than the ZL.

Also, considering that the Xperia Z is more expensive than its sibling, ┬áit means that it will cost more than $800. Of course, the rumor can’t be confirmed and the publication could be wrong about this because otherwise the American customers will certainly go for the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One because they will be considerably cheaper, and they also provide higher performances.

Would you buy the Sony Xperia Z at this price tag?
