This week we are going to compare this year’s most important flagships with two upcoming smartphones, the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2, Google Nexus 6 and LG G3.
Most likely they will all be very high-end smartphones competing on the same market, as we expect the still unreleased ones to come with very good hardware and displays similar to the ones already released.
We are going to compare their design, display, hardware, and price based on what we know about the current ones and the rumors about the two upcoming ones.
HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 have been already released, while we expect the Nexus 6 and LG G3 to be released later this year.
We’ve already seen and tested the HTC One M8, Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2, so we know very well how they look and feel. Out of the three, we love the HTC One M8, which feels absolutely premium and has a very good build. The Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 are also very nice and beautiful smartphones, but they don’t have the same allure as the M8.
The LG G3 is rumored to look pretty similar to the old G2, which hasn’t been praised as a very beautiful device, unfortunately.
The Google Nexus 6 is rumored to be based on the HTC One M8 or the LG G3. Considering the LG G3 shouldn’t come with the best design, we’d love it to feature a design similar to the M8.
Out of the current ones, we declare the One M8 a winner when it comes to design. We also expect the Nexus 6 to feature a very clean and nice design and we’re still trying to get our hands on some leaked photos.
Nowadays displays found on high-end smartphones are pretty similar. The biggest difference is between the IPS TFT and Super AMOLED ones. Samsung Galaxy S5 has been declared the best display ever seen on a smartphone and we have to agree. It has wonderful, bright colors and an amazing brightness.
The HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 have pretty similar displays and we expect the LG G3 and HTC One M8 to follow suit, as they will also feature an IPS TFT display, most likely.
We don’t think there’s any other smartphone that will be released this year to defeat the Galaxy S5 when it comes to displays. We’ve yet to see the Galaxy Note 4, but it will probably come with the same display.
Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a 2.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, and Adreno 330 GPU, while the Sony Xperia Z2 has the same processor clocked at 2.3 Ghz, and 3GB of RAM. The HTC One M8 also has the Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.3Ghz, 2GB of RAM and the same GPU as the other two smartphones.
We expect the LG G3 to come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, which is due to be released later this year. It should be significantly faster than the 801, which will give it a boost over the previous three smartphones. We don’t believe it will feature 3GB of RAM though. It’s GPU should be Adreno 440, which comes with the 805.
Google Nexus 6 will probably be cheaper than the other smartphones, so it could feature the same Snapdragon 801 processor found on the already released flagships, along with 2GB of RAM and the Adreno 330.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is available for $168 with a contract from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. It can be ordered on Amazon.
The HTC One M8 is a bit cheaper, at $150 with a contract available at the same carriers and you can also find it on Amazon.
The Sony Xperia Z2 and LG G3 are not yet available, but we expect it to be priced at $200 with a contract.
The Nexus 6 will most likely be available on the Play Store only for the price of $350, unlocked.
