I didn’t believe that a game would be capable of overtaking Angry Birds’ popularity anytime soon, but Imangi Studios’ Temple Run has just achieved this performance.
Launched both on iOS and Android platforms (available in App Store and Google Play Store), Temple Run 2 has reached over 50 million downloads in just 13 days, after not less than 20 million users downloaded it in the first four days after the launch.
As a comparison, Rovio’s Angry Birds Space needed 35 days to reach the 50 million downloads threshold. Temple Run 2 registered 6 million downloads in just 24 hours after it’s launch in Apple’s App Store.
The simple but addictive games with decent graphics are very popular among the users. You probably know that in Temple Run 2 all you have to do is… err… run, avoid various obstacles, score as much points as possible then upgrade your character. Simple and efficient.
Keith Shepherd, Imangi Studios co-founder, had a moment of sincerity and stated that he didn’t hope for Temple Run to be a successful product as it is today, not even in his dreams.
