Since Jelly Bean got out and runs free from Galaxy Nexus to Google Nexus 7, more and more Android users are looking forward in getting the update for their own devices. But, as we know, the firmware can’t be applied yet, at least not in an official way, though there are many beta and unofficial versions of the same ready for the installation procedure. So, today, we will be checking in how to update the Asus Transformer TF300T with beta Jelly Bean 4.1.1 software. This is the first Android 4.1.1 ROM available for the Transformer TF300T meaning that it is unlikely to have a stable version of the same.

Again, remember that the present update isn’t released by Asus and has nothing to do with the mentioned company. This is a custom ROM that is based on the Jellybean firmware and its purpose is to bring all the new features and capabilities into your Transformer system. As we are dealing with a beta ROM, for being able to flash it, you will have to previously root the Asus tablet. Furthermore, a custom recovery image (it will help us in flashing the file from the SD card) should be installed on your device.

All these aspects are leading to one thing only: as soon as you gain root access the warranty will be void. So, if somehow you manage to do something wrong and brick your device, than you will be on your own, nobody will help you out. If you feel uncomfortable about this aspect maybe it will be a good idea to stop here. Anyway, the warranty can be restored if you apply the stock ROM or if you update the OS with an official firmware. Then, the root access will be revoked and the bootloader relocked. There are no clues about the official release of the Jelly Bean for your Transformer TF300T, so this ROM might be the only opportunity for updating your tablet, at least for now.

Since this is a beta software, there are things and features that works and that doesn’t perform really well. This version of update was developed by those of xda-developers and according to them, the camera, the audio volume (is stuck at either 0 or 50%), the audio recording, the HW Video playback (but software playback works) and the screenshot doesn’t works. On the other hand, the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Storage, Audio playback and Sensors are performing as expected. Don’t worry though, as all these problems will be resolved as soon as a new version of the update will be made available for your Asus Transformer TF300T.

Another detail that you must consider is related to your personal info which is saved on your tablet. By completing this step by step guide, the data will be wiped out as you will have to do a wipe of the system, or else Jelly Bean will not run on your Transformer. So, backup all that you need, for being sure that you are not losing something important for you, or for those who are having access to your device. You can use our tutorials for this job, so don’t hesitate and search for suitable guides through our how to section.

In the end, and before the actual steps, you will have to prepare the tablet and the computer you will use. On both uninstall the security programs because it can interfere with the installation procedure. Then, on the Asus enable the USB debugging option so that you can properly connect it with the PC. Remember to root and install a custom recovery image and charge the tablet before commencing. As soon as you are done with the pre requisites, you can start completing the steps from below. Make sure you are not doing things by yourselves as you can brick your TF300T device.
