Update Motorola Droid RAZR HD XT926 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with Slim Bean Custom ROM

If you thought that your Motorola Droid Razr HD will no longer receive the Jelly Bean treatment, well you should always consider that third party devs are constantly working on developing new ROMs for almost all the Android based devices out there, whether we are referring to high end or low end smartphones or tablets. So, thanks to those of xda-developers, now you can easily update your Droid Razr HD XT926 to custom Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS by installing the new version of Slim Bean firmware.

The Slim Bean ROM has been made available from a while now and the platform is being suitable with numerous Android handsets. Now, the Slim Bean v5.6 has been rolled out, the system being based on latest Android software, the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS. So, we will be checking on how to flash the same on your Motorola Droid Razr HD. But before detailing the update operation, we should be checking on which the pre requisites are. Also, read the following lines for learning other relevant aspects that are related to the installation procedure that you are about to complete.

First, as you can already tell, this is not an official update released by Motorola for your Razr HD; we are dealing with a custom ROM, so consider the update operation risky and complex. Now, the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 based Slim Bean firmware is stable and comes without bugs and issues; furthermore the OS brings important features and apps that cannot be found in the default version of the Android system, so by flashing the ROM you will be able to power up the performances of your Razr HD XT926.

But for being able to complete this tutorial you will have to first root your handset. Because of that the warranty will get void, so be careful in what you do as if something bad happens, you will be by yourselves. Anyway, you can easily restore the warranty if needed; all you have to do is to unroot, or downgrade the Droid Razr HD to stock Android OS – then the root access will be revoked and the default Android firmware re-installed.

After gaining root access, you will have to install a custom recovery image on your smartphone. The stock recovery, which comes preinstalled on all the Android based handsets, can’t be used when trying to update with custom ROMs. So, flashing a custom recovery is a must have. Be aware as the tool can be applied only on rooted systems therefore complete the previous tasks first.

The most important thing is to backup your data before going any further. As you will see during the proper steps, a wipe will be required, so all of your personal info will be erased. That’s why, in case you want to previously store the contacts list, call logs, market apps and so on, I recommend you to complete a full backup. Also, use the custom recovery image and apply a Nandroid backup too; in case you will not like the Slim Bean JB 4.2.2 custom ROM, then you will be able to easily restore the stock firmware on your Motorola Droid RAZR HD XT926.

For being able to apply the update on your phone a computer or notebook will be required as you need to download some files on the same. Now, on the computer you must first uninstall the antivirus and the other security programs that are running and protecting your device (I recommended you to do the same for your smartphone). Also, you should consider in charging your phone or else it might get turned off while you will try to update its system (you will risk in bricking it if that happens). Another thing to do is to enable the USB debugging option by going to “Settings -> Developer options -> USB Debugging”.

This ROM has been developed by those of xda-developers so we have them to thanks for the present tutorial; anyway, remember that the method is being compatible only with the Motorola Droid Razr HD model number XT926 so don’t install the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM on a different device (by using the next steps) because you will probably end up in bricking your handset.
