The Samsung Galaxy S2 users are the most privileged ones when it comes to custom ROMs updates, as there are numerous ports of the Android platform available for their smartphones. During the past few weeks we have brought you how to guides from which you can learn how to install such firmware on your SGS2, so if you still haven’t updated your phone, don’t hesitate and search through our how to section. Anyway, today I will be showing you another method for improving your Galaxy S2 model number I9100 this time by installing the new Jelly Bean based SlimTW5 custom ROM firmware.

The software is being developed by those of xda-developers so we have them to thanks for the present tutorial. Also, the update is being based on the CM 10 firmware, which has just been officially released. CM 10 is one of the most popular ROMs available due to its numerous features and capabilities that once installed on any device is powering the performances by customizing and improving the internal system. The same can be applied for the SlimTW5 OS, not to mention the TouchWiz 5 interface that comes pre-installed. So, your SGS2 will be able to look like the Galaxy S3 now, of course with CM 10 above all.

Beside the looks, you phone will be optimized so you will be able to gain more speed, an improved web browsing experience, a better battery life and more performances. The RAM memory will be used more properly so your handset will react faster to your demands. These are just some of the enhancements; I let you discover the rest of them by yourselves. Anyway, remember that the present update isn’t coming from Samsung and has nothing to do with the mentioned company. There are no words about a future official upgrade for your S2, so a custom ROM is all you get so far. You shouldn’t worry though as these operating systems are stable ones so you can safely use them each day.

This is a custom ROM so you can’t OTA apply it. Also as it isn’t provided by Samsung you must follow the manual procedure for installing the same. For being able to do so you must root your SGS2 first. In this way you will remove the factory restrictions and unlock the bootloader. After rooting install a custom recovery image too, which will be used for the flashing and installation procedure. Be aware that once you gain root access the warranty of your phone will be void. Unfortunately if something wrong happens you will be by yourselves, nobody will be there for you. So, be careful in what to do and don’t mess things up. You can anytime restore the warranty by downgrading to the stock ROM or by updating to an official release of the Android platform.

Then, a backup is also required as during the below steps you will have to wipe the data out from your smartphone. This will affect only the info which is stored on the internal memory and not on the one saved on the SD card, so the backup should be completed only for the data which is saved on your phone. By performing this operation you can backup text messages, call logs, internet settings, calendar info, market apps, contacts and even the current ROM. You can use suitable apps from Google Play or a computer for completing the backup. You can also search for backup tips through our recent how to guide.

Finally, there are the pre requisites. Well, these operations are important if you want to be sure that your device will be in safe hands during the installation procedure. So, it will be better to take your time and complete them as it will not take too long. First, you need to have access to Windows running computer with Internet access enabled. Then you will have to connect your SGS2 with the PC so the USB cord must be near you. Next, deactivate all the security tools which are installed on your PC and on your smartphone. Also, enable the USB debugging option from your phone and finally charge the battery if there is less than 70% power left. Furthermore, ensure that you are applying this tutorial only for the Samsung Galaxy S2 model number I9100 and not for similar ones as you can easily brick your beloved handsets.
