When talking about the latest version of Android OS that comes pre-installed on a device, we can only consider the Samsung Galaxy S4. The smartphone is coming with important features and capabilities that cannot be found on the default system of the Jelly Bean platform. But, you can still improve the Android 4.2.2 experience and this by flashing a custom ROM firmware. So, if you want to try the same, or if you just want to check the general info related to a custom software, read the following lines as I will show you how to update the Galaxy S4 I9505 with DarthStalker V Jelly Bean 4.2.2 custom ROM.

Do take note first that this is not the only unofficial port of the Android 4.2.2 OS developed and released for the SGS4, so before deciding whether to install the DarthStalker ROM or not, check out our “update Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505” page. Then, if you decide that the present firmware is what you need just resume the below lines and you will find everything you need to know about the DarthStalker platform along with the easiest way in which you can flash the same.

First I have to mention that DarthStalker V 2.0 has been developed by the xda-developers team so we have to thanks them for this step by step guide. Therefore, you are not updating your Galaxy S4 with an official Android 4.2.2 OS as we are dealing with a custom ROM that comes with its own features, apps, capabilities and looks. Actually, the firmware is based on the stock T-Mobile UVUAMDL Jelly Bean 4.2.2 system, though on your device will be installed a custom version of the mentioned software.

DarthStalker V is rooted, deodexed, zipaligned, installed with Busybox and SuperSu and comes to improve the JB experience that is currently running on your S4. After flashing the firmware you will gain more speed, the heating issues will be resolved, you will have access to the internal system, you will be able to remove in built apps, install new and complex tools, enjoy an improved battery life and a lot more. With DarthStalker V your Galaxy S4 will run a customizable ROM, so your phone will become your new playground.

Now, in order to detail the update process that will follow here is what you need to know: the Android 4.2.2 based DarthStalker custom ROM can be installed only if your Samsung Galaxy S4 is rooted and installed with a custom recovery image. Rooted because an unofficial software can be installed only on an unchained system and a custom recovery image because the stock recovery can’t be used for flashing .zip files from the SD card. Be aware as the custom recovery image can be applied only on a rooted smartphone so first unchain your phone. Also, take not as by rooting the warranty will get void, so try not to mess things up – you can restore the warranty by downgrading to stock Android Jelly Bean OS.

Also, another important aspect is related to the data which is saved on the internal storage memory of your phone. Well, a wipe will be required so you will end up in losing all of your personal info, data and accounts if you don’t previously back it up. Therefore, take your time and complete a full backup operation. I also recommend you to apply a Nandroid backup for saving the current software – in case you don’t like the DarthStalker ROM you will then be able to easily restore the stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2 firmware.

Furthermore, there has to be performed some preparation tasks before starting to flash the DarthStalker ROM on your SGS4. So, you need to make sure that you can use a computer with internet connection enabled while the phone and its USB cable should be near you. Then, you need to enable the USB debugging option on your smartphone and also you have to check the battery status: if there is less than 60% power left I recommend you to charge your device before going any further. Up next, on both computer and handset you should uninstall the security tools (like antivirus, antimalware and Firewall protection) because these programs are usually interfering with the flashing operation.

Take note that this step by step guide has been developed to work only for the Samsung Galaxy S4 model number I9505; applying the next steps for a different or similar smartphone will probably brick your Android powered device.
