Android 4.2.2 Update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (GT-P3110) Rolling out in UK

After the WiFi + Cellular variant of the 7-inch tablet was updated to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean a couple of weeks ago, now we’re hearing that the South Korean company has released the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 WiFi in the United Kingdom.

If you happen to own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (GT-P3110) and live in the UK, this is nothing but great news for you, as the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update comes with a couple of small but useful changes. After you update your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean you will be able to enjoy the new Quick Settings button in the Notifications area, Daydream mode while having your tablet in dock or charging, lockscreen widgets, improved notifications, multiple user accounts, enhanced accessibility, and a new launcher and new widgets borrowed from the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 build number is labeled P3110XXDMH1 and you might want to hear that the software update is rolling out both OTA and through Samsung Kies. If you want to use the OTA update method we strongly advise you to download the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean package through a WiFi network since it should be 500+ MB.

Just like any other software update, the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is rolling out gradually, so it may take a couple of days until it becomes available for your device. Anyway, if you haven’t received the Android 4.2.2 software update notification yet, you should try to check for it manually. Head to Settings > About device > Software Update then tap on the Check for updates button and follow the on screen instructions.

Now that we’ve heard that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 units in UK have already received the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update, we are expecting the South Korean phone maker to release the new software update in other regions of the globe in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was officially announced last year at Mobile World Congress event in February 2012, being released on the market two months later, in May. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came pre-loaded with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it was subsequently upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The tablet comes with a 7-inch PLS LCD display with a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels, sporting 1 GB of RAM and 16/32/64 GB of internal storage expandable using microSD cards of up to 64 GB, The Samsung tablet is powered by a TI OMAP 4430 chipset based on a dual-core 1 GHz CPU and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

On the back of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 you will find a 3.15 megapixel camera with geo-tagging, smile detection, and 720p@30 fps video recording, while the front panel accommodates a VGA camera for video calls.

If you are reading this from UK please let us know in the comments section whether you’ve received the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3110 units.

  • Galileo

Yep. In UK and fully updated my Tab 2 7 (P3110)

    • Kevin Chapple

Does anyone know of the full “change log”, please? Also, Galileo, as you have the update, does the “keep the screen awake whilst reading” functionality work? (page 17 of the manual – Whilst reading the screen the screen will not sleep, which is controlled by the camera”.

      • Galileo

hi Kevin. ‘Smart stay’ is certainly enabled. Whether it ‘works’ is maybe the relevant part. I tried it on my S3 some time ago and it seemed hit and miss and have not tried on the tab yet. I may give it a go at the weekend. Re change log – do you mean the kernel version etc held in the ‘About Device’ or do you mean a written detail of all the changes they have enabled in the release (e.g. NOT multiple User Accounts it seems) ? – or something else….

        • Kevin Chapple

I did actually reply to this posting (by Galileo), but that posting seems to have disappeared? (I can no longer see it 🙁 )

Help…after accepting the update I can’t open any of the Kobo library of books in Readers Hub. What’s up? Otherwise all looks great.

    • Biff

Having the same problems with Nook – can’t open any side-loaded books.

      • Biff

Sorted that one: erased and reloaded. Seems to work.
Not that that will help with Readers Hub.

    • roxi

Did you get an answer to this? I am having problems also with bluefire reader

  • Galileo

Looks great – however, Touchwiz does not seem to have added the (multiple) ‘Users’ option in Settings. I see reports it (multiple users) does not apply to Phones – but this is the wifi only tablet. Anyone know where it is – or if Samsung are supporting multiple users in 4.2.2 ???

    • Pinkdolphins0400

      Same here

  • Pinkdolphins0400

I can’t see multiple users option in settings

  • Pinkdolphins0400

    And it has been updated

  • ligularian

Tried 4 times to update today but kept on getting message saying it was being rolled out on a first-come, first-served basis, and to try again later.

    • Kevin Chapple

Yes, likewise, which is a different message to usual, so one must assume it’s “on its way”? 🙂

  • mokas05

    i’m in uk and
when i try to update mine, this message comes up “access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. try again later”

any advice?! anyways, i’ll keep trying

    • Kevin Chapple

I too was getting that message yesterday, which looked a little promising, then this morning the download became available 🙂

I actually received the update this morning :-)), over the last hour or so. Yesterday I was starting to see “access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. try again later”, which looked a little promising, then this morning the download was available.

Got the updated version, not too happy with it though. The zoom in slide at the side of the screen has gone, don’t like the new shortcut notification screen. Where is the live desktop photo feature. I had changing photos that rolled and moved, gone. And why has the predictive words been cut to three on display, I’m sure there were more

  • CinciGTuser

Updated yesterday (in Ohio) but I lost all of my “save for offline reading” pages. Anyone find a fix? This is a real pain.

  • gigi

Received the update yesterday really DO NOT LIKE the look of the notification panel. It’s there any way to change the look. And I have not been able to change the picture they have at the lock screen. While I am VERY APPRECIATIVE of being able move apps to sd card aesthetically the upgrade stinks. Samsung needs to get a new product manager for its upgrades.

  • Tony Tobias

I received the 4.2.2 update for my GT-P3113 tablet.
Since the update was performed, my tablet had become slowly to respond to user inputs.
Application selection and start-up had become painfully sluggish.
I want to down grade back to 4.1.2
