Manually Update Galaxy Xcover 2 to Official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXAMB3 OS

Even though the Galaxy Xcover 2 hasn’t been yet released Samsung is already planning to offer an update as soon as the smartphone will hit the market. The firmware will be coming only as a small improvement though, for resolving some bugs and issues from the default version of the Android Jelly Bean OS. Anyway, during the present step by step guide we will be checking on how to install the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 official update, which is dubbed as XXAMB3, on the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2, so you might want to check and apply the following lines.

Don’t forget that an Android 4.2 update is also expected for the Xcover 2 but in May, though Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet, so it’s important to flash all the stock software that are being provided by Samsung for enjoying the latest apps, features and of course for running a stable Android OS with no bugs and issues. Of course, as we already have a leaked version of the stock ROM, the present XXAMB3 one, there will be made available several Jelly Bean 4.1.2 based custom firmware for the Xcover 2 meaning that you will have numerous possibilities for improving the performances of your device.

Related to the custom ROMs, you need to know that if you do update your Galaxy Xcover 2 with the same, you will not be able to OTA or by using KIES flash the future official improvements, a manual installation procedure being required. So, if you think that you can’t handle complex and risky operations, then it will be a good idea to stick only to the stock and official Android platform.

Now, the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXAMB3 OS is coming with the following improvements: overheating issue has been resolved, the camera bug has also been resolved, OTA update error will be removed, display brightness bug fixed and you can add multiple Google accounts. These are the most relevant improvements included in the XXAMB3 software, so if you want to get the same on your Galaxy Xcover 2 all you need to do is to apply the next lines.

Don’t forget that this is an official update so it will also be OTA or by using KIES available. Unfortunately, when talking about official ROMs, we do know that not all the devices will receive the firmware at the same time. This is exactly what will be happening with the Android 4.1.2 XXAMB3 OS as Samsung will offer the OTA depending on the market and also on the carrier. That’s why not all the Galaxy Xcover 2 handsets will receive the software at the same time. Therefore, you might need to manually apply the OS improvement; and if so, this tutorial is perfect for you as it will easily take you through the installation procedure.

The best part is that you don’t have to previously root your phone for being able to complete this tutorial. Gaining root access is a must have only when you are dealing with custom ROMs. Therefore by applying this guide you will not void the warranty of your smartphone. Also, you won’t make any “unofficial” changes on your Xcover 2, so you have nothing to worry about. For the flashing operation we will use Odin, which is an tool that has been designed especially for these types of procedures (I will teach you how to use Odin for updating the Galaxy Xcover 2 to official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXAMB3 OS during the steps from below).

Anyway, a backup is still being recommended because you might lose your personal saves while trying to update your phone. So, save the contacts, messages, call logs, EFS, internet settings, market apps and so on. Also, if you do own a rooted smartphone you can even make a Nandroid backup (you can restore the stock firmware in case you don’t like the new ROM).

Also, you will have to download some apps and install the same; therefore a Windows running computer will have to be near you as well as for the Xcover 2 and its USB cable. On the phone enable the USB debugging option and if you notice that there is less than 60% power left, charge the battery too. Deactivate the security tools, like antivirus, from both computer and handset and perform the next steps only for updating the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 to official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXAMB3 software.
