Update HTC Droid DNA with CODIS Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Custom ROM

Finally, a custom ROM firmware has been made available for the HTC Droid DNA; as you know due to the handset locked bootloader the third party devs were having hard times in providing a suitable OS improvement, but now, thanks to those of xda-developers, you can easily update your DNA with the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based CODIS software. This step by step guide will take you through the update operation, so you should read all the following lines if you want to safely install the CODIS ROM on your HTC Droid DNA handset.

But it should be clear that this is not an OS provided by HTC for your DNA, so this tutorial has nothing to do with the mentioned company. Because of that you have to apply a manual installation procedure that will require your attention.

The CODIS ROM will install a custom version of the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 software on your HTC Droid DNA; also the Sense 4+ UI will be flashed on your phone. The firmware is also deodexed and comes with a rooted kernel. Furthermore, features like Beats Audio, Google Apps, Aroma installer and advanced power menu will be added to your DNA, not to mention that you will be able to enjoy the option of going Sense-less or you can mix and match the features that you want via AROMA Installer. All these and more (check the rest of the capabilities on our source page by using the link from here) are being included in the CODIS system, so if you like it, just give it a try.

In order to test the Jelly Bean powered CODIS ROM on your Droid DNA, you will first have to apply the preparation tasks. Without completing the same you will notice that the software will not work for your smartphone and also you can damage the internal system of your phone. Anyway, before going any further you should know that once you start to perform the below list, the warranty will get void. That’s why you must pay attention in what you do and always stick to the guide, don’t apply something by yourselves.

  • Root your Droid DNA OS and unlock its bootloader. The root operation will remove the factory restrictions meaning that you will have access to the internal system and finally leading to our purpose: you will be able to flash a custom ROM firmware.
  • During the update operation you will have to use a custom recovery image, so download and install the same on your phone.
  • Now, the warranty will get void; if you want to restore the same all you have to do is to downgrade to the stock ROM or to update with an official software released by HTC and suitable with your Droid DNA.
  • Installing the CODIS software will wipe the data which is being saved on your handset. That’s why you should backup your personal info and saves. In order to ease your work you can use our backup and restore guides (use our how to section for finding the guides you need). Also, it is recommended to make a Nandroid backup.
  • A windows powered computer or notebook should be near you.
  • On the computer install the proper drivers for your Droid DNA.
  • Also, install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on your computer, which is being featured on the Android Software Development Kit (SDK).
  • Uninstall the antivirus and Firewall protection that is installed on your computer or phone.
  • Enable the USB debugging option on your smartphone.
  • Check the battery stats from your handset: if the power left is less than 60% you should go and charge the battery; else you can skip this step.
  • Do apply this step by step guide only if you want to update the HTC Droid DNA with the CODIS Jelly Bean 4.1.1 custom ROM firmware; the software will not work for a similar device.
