Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update for LG Optimus G Hits Bell, Rogers, and Telus

We have good news for the Canadian owners of the smartphone that underpinned the popular Nexus 4. The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for LG Optimus G is now rolling out at three of the big Canadian carriers: Bell, Rogers, and Telus. Moreover, the South Korea-based company said that SaskTel will also roll out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for LG Optimus G in late March.

As you probably know, the LG Optimus G comes pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update will bring numerous significant changes. Besides the buttery smooth Project Butter that helps the interface run a lot faster, the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean will also bring Google Now, improved Notifications area, better battery life, and many other goodies on your LG Optimus G.

Even though LG was supposed to bring it’s own improvements to the firmware update, the QSlide 2.0 feature is no where to be found according to MobileSyrup.

After you update your LG Optimus G to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, you will be able to enjoy improved touch performance, WiFi Direct and Miracast, Android Beam, a revised lock screen, offline voice recognition, Quick Translator, bug fixes and other such improvements.

It was reported that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update arrives OTA, but if you haven’t received the software update notification yet, you should check for it manually. In order to do so head to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Update. Given the size of the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for LG Optimus G we are recommending you to download and perform the firmware update while connected to a WiFi network.

In case you forgot, the LG Optimus G boasts a 4.7-inch True HD-IPS + LCD display and a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with four Krait 200 cores at 1.5 GHz and Adreno 320 graphics processing. LG Optimus  G also comes with 2 GB of RAM, all connectivity features worthy of a high-end smartphone like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, and 3.5 mm audio jack. The camera has an 8 megapixel sensor with autofocus, LED flash Geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilization and full HD video recording support.

Pretty lame that AT&T won’t cough up Jellybean.

Jodi, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1921. In the general thread, you can root and unlock the bootloader (system that allows operating system upgrades), then flash (install) Jelly Bean (android 4.1 or 4.2). It won’t have the LG updates, but it’ll have Anroid updates (neither of which are coming from AT&T before you decide to buy a new phone).

I received the update on my LG Optimus G and now cannot connect to my home Wifi. Our PC and PlayStation connect without any issue, but since the update our mobiles are useless. I had no problems before the update. Not impressed.

Since I have received the update, I am unable to start up Google Chroome and can not logout of my bank account. To logout I have to slide the app of the screen.
I did sent a message to LG and their reply was that there is something wrong with my phone and I need to take it to a service centre …..can you believe that? I am trying to provide them with information in order to fix the bugs.
Is it not obvious that the update needs fixing?
I enjoy my phone and would like to see a quick update.

Sprint is makin people keep the connections optimizer on!!! After the update is finished it brings up the screen to explain what the connections optimizer does, ie collect wifi network locations and names… but when you click on more info it disappears and then you’re stuck looking for it alone… its under more in the menu

  • ezi

chrome works for me but when i watch flash videos they always go to a black screen when the play, pause and skip buttons “time-out” needs to be fixed ASAP!!!

  • Zhunter

This update blows. The voice commands have been removed. No longer can i hit the voice command button and say, “navigate to _______” because now they have that stupid thing from the commercial. A thing that you have to say google before it will let you search. I am very disappointed with this update. Also, wifi was messed up for a while, though it seems to be working now. I want my voice commands back.

Oh and they also moved keys around on the on screen keyboard. What a joke. I am upset with this update and I want to go back to 4.1.1.

Don’t bother ‘upgrading’ it isnt worth it.

The mobile networks settings are no more accessible. The process com.android.phone always crashing if my phone is set to French,,, weirdo!! What can I do?

The Jelly Bean update is absolutely atrocious. My LG optimus G has not improved in any capacity. The response when typing texts is so slow. The keyboard and voice commands are so slow to respond. They took the data toggle off. The phone is consistently slow to respond to any command in general. I know that sounds bad but it is. I used to love this phone for its speed but the update has tarnished my love for it. JellyBean is a huge disservice to Android users.

Herehere – updated and was all exited for a while as it cured a sync problem with ICS. Then, I tried to connect to my router at work and it will no longer connect to wifi there. No problems connecting at home so it has to be a problem to specific networks. Battery life appears slightly lower and struggles for wifi signal more too. So much for better – should’ve got an Iphone.
