Samsung Galaxy S3 update XXALF2

Samsung has already released an update for the unlocked UK version of the Galaxy S3 i9300. But don’t worry, because we got our hands on it and here’s a guide to flash it, no matter what’s your location or carrier. This update comes with stability improvements, and as you may know, it’s always better to use a new firmware, because it’s faster, more stable and usually comes with more features.

The update has been just released and you can be one of the first to flash it on your Galaxy S3 i9300 device. Here’s what the new update comes with: Firmware I9300XXALF2, Modem XXLF2, CSC OXALF2.

Please note that flashing anything through Odin can be risky and you always have to be careful and performs backups before proceeding with the update. We can not be held responsible for any damages caused to your Galaxy S3, though nothing should happen, as this ROM and update procedure has been tested by us and proved to be safe.

Also before you begin flashing the firmware on your device, remember the following:

  • Install Kies on your PC and update it.
  • Close Kies, any antivirus and firewall you may have on your device.
  • Make sure your battery is charged to at least 50%.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your device.
  • Perform backups so you don’t lose anything.

How to backup Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300

Before proceeding with the update you may want to backup your apps, contacts, files, sms messages and call logs. To backup contacts, sms messages, apps and call logs, please use the following apps: SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore | How to backup contacts.

To backup apps you should download AppBak here.

If your device is rooted and you have CWM, you can also perform a nandroid backup, so you can return your device to a previous state if you don’t like the update.

How to update Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 to Android 4.0.4 XXALF2

First you will have to download the XXALF2 ROM here and Odin 1.85 here. Then extract the downloaded firmware.

Make sure that your device is disconnected from the computer, turn it off and boot in recovery mode by pressing volume up, home button and power button simultanousely. Now go to Wipe Data / Factory Reset > Yes. Turn off your device again and boot in download mode by pressing volume down, home button and power buttons.

Now you can open Odin, click PDA and load the extracted firmware. After that connect your device to the computer and press start. But first make sure that you didn’t modify anything else in Odin because you may damage your device.

If Odin doesn’t see your device, then you will have to enable USB Debugging by heading to Settings > Developer Tools. If it still doesn’t work, then install the latest Kies version on your computer and update it.

Now you should be running the latest XXALF2 firmware update on your Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300. Please let us know if you notice any difference and if it works better.

I just flashed this firmware (XXALF2) with Chainfire’s Mobile ODIN – it’s worked GREAT – it even made sure that root was maintained – another fine program by Chainfire!!!! ;)
