Great news for the owners of the first quad-core smartphone of the South Korean company, as one of our readers have reported that he received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3.
Before the awesome 5.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was officially revealed, there were some voices saying that Samsung would do a terrible mistake by launching a smartphone that comes pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean so soon after the launch of Samsung Galaxy S3. The point behind this theory was that a powerful Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered smartphone would seriously damage the sales of the Galaxy S3, a device that runs Android 4.0 ICS out of the box.
Of course, Samsung was aware of the threats imposed by the mirage of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, so the South Koreans did their homework properly, as the arrival of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced at the same conference where Galaxy Note 2 was officially unveiled.
Moreover, there are some rumors indicating that the new Samsung Galaxy S3 models that will arrive in four new case colors will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It seems that the Germans will be the first to enjoy the Samsung Galaxy S3 variants, as the black model for Vodafone will supposedly run the latest Android firmware out of the box.
Our reader, Jerry, informed us that he received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update for his Galaxy S3 I93000 over the air, as he was checking whether a new software update is available. Even though he didn’t provide us the Baseband version of the new firmware we tend to believe that it’s about the XXDLI1 version.
As you probably know, Samsung Galaxy S3 was introduced in May 2012 at a London-based Samsung Unpacked event and it comes with an Exynos 4412 chipset based on four ARM Cortex A9 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. The Samsung flgaship also comes with 16/32 GB of internal flash storage, 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED Plus display, 1 GB of RAM and 8 megapixel camera with full HD video recording capabilities.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 leaves the factory gates with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, but starting the following couple of weeks all the owners of the Samsung flagship smartphone will be able to upgrade their device to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Summing up, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 is out there and we’d recommend you to check and see whether the firmware update is available for your terminal, as well. To do so, head to Settings > About device > System updates. We promise to return with more info about the matter as soon as we manage to get in touch with our reader and, hopefully, we will be able to get some screenshots, too.
