It seems like Samsung has started to launch new OS updates for some of its devices as the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 got their KitKat treatment yesterday, while today we saw the release of Android 4.4 for Verizon Galaxy S4.
The Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update for US Cellular Galaxy S4 brings tons of changes and improvements that should improve the overall performance and make your day better. Keep in mind that these updates are usually rolled out in stages and your device might not be in the first batch of phones to receive KitKat today, but you shouldn’t panic as the update will most probably arrive in the next couple of days.
After updating your US Cellular Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4 KK you will notice that its overall interface has been redesigned, the notification status bar icons are now white, bigger icons, easy to access toggles, more intuitive Settings menu, a full immersive screen that will allow you to run games and apps in full-screen, better multi-window feature that allows you multitask even faster than before.
There are tons of small changes and bug fixes that you will not even notice as you will be impressed by how smooth the interface has become after the KitKat firmware has been installed on your phone.
A somewhat bigger change might the integration of SMS functions into Google Hangouts app. From now you will be able to view all the messages, video calls, conversations in the same screen. Now you will be able to share location and send animated GIF content right from your Hangouts screen. You can easily switch between SMS and Hangouts chat by pressing a single button, make sure to test the app thoroughly before you master all of its brand new functions and components. It might a while to get used to this change, but it will sure be worth it.
With Android 4.4.2 KitKat your US Cellular Galaxy S4 device will receive new Wireless Printing support, so you will be able from now on to print documents, web pages, photos, etc straight from your device.
If the OTA Update Notification to Android 4.4 KK isn’t shown by your Galaxy S4, then you can check for yourself and see if there are any new firmware files available: open the Settings menu, go to General, then About Phone and open Software Updates menu. Here you simply hit the ‘check now’ button.
If there is any new firmware update available for download, then you should confirm the process and wait until your US Cellular Galaxy S4 automatically completes the Android 4.4 installation.
Also, you can use the Samsung KIES to search for new updates. Simply connect your device to your PC and KIES will do the rest.
In order to confirm that the update was completed and that your Galaxy S4 is indeed running the latest KitKat build you should check the Baseband version in ‘About Phone’ menu and make sure that it build is set to R970TYUFND1.
