The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 OTA update is now available for download for Verizon’s customers, and, just like the software updates rolled out by AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint, it brings, among others, Galaxy Gear compatibility.
The Verizon Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 OTA update is being rolled out in phases, which means that you might not be able to download and install it on your devices right away. In case you didn’t receive the system update notification, you might also want to perform a manual check; who knows, maybe you’re lucky. The manual check can be performed in Settings > About phone > System update > Check for updates.
The Android 4.3 update for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 is sized approximately 116 MB and it will change your firmware build number to I535VRUCML1. Given the size of the update file, it’s recommended to use a stable WiFi network while downloading it.
Besides Galaxy Gear support, the Android 4.3 update for Samsung Galaxy S3 also brings another Verizon-specific app called Verizon Cloud which will allow you to back-up text messages, call logs, contacts, music and multimedia files.
According to the official change log posted on Verizon’s support website, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update brings move-to-SD-card functionality, a new mode for the Camera app called Sound & Shot, Group Play, Galaxy Note 3-like Multi Window, music player controls on the Lock Screen, support for more Bluetooth Smart Accessories, and Easy Mode. Also, some of Samsung’s apps were renamed and updated: AllShare Play is now Samsung Link, Starter Mode is now Easy Mode, and AllShare Cast is now Screen Mirroring.
The same Verizon document also informs that the Android 4.3 update for Samsung Galaxy S3 will improve Isis Wallet App, Call Settings, Lock Screen Settings, and Notifications.
I remind you that the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 2 GB RAM, 16/32/64 GB of microSD-expandable storage, 8 MP rear-mounted camera, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and microUSB 2.0, while the processing tasks are handled by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor.
