LG has finally announced officially that the White Nexus 4 is real, also revealing that the White Nexus 4 release date has been set for “the next several weeks.” Just like everybody anticipated, the White Nexus 4 shares the same technical specifications of its black brother, and, of course, the same design, except for the body color.
The new smartphone has white back and edgets, but it keeps the same black front panel as the Nexus 4 that was unveiled in October 2012.
Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company said that “Nexus 4 set the standard for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean smartphones,” adding that the “Nexus 4 White delivers the same Google experience to consumers in a stylish and attractive color option.”
Even though the global White Nexus 4 release date was set for “the next several weeks,” the smartphone co-developed by Google and LG will go on sale in Hong Kong as of tomorrow, May 29th. The White Nexus 4 will become available for purchase on select markets in Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East.
Just in case you forgot, the Nexus 4 sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, while being underpinned by a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with four Krait cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and Adreno 320 GPU. The terminal also boasts 2 GB of RAM and 8/16 GB of internal storage.
The back of the White Nexus 4 accommodates an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, photo sphere, and full HD video recording support, while the front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera records HD videos, making it ideal for video calls.
In terms of connectivity, the Nexus 4 brings all the features worthy of a high-end smartphone: DC-HSDPA, 42 Mbps; HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, NFC chip, GPS module, and microUSB (SlimPort) v2.0.
Even though there were reports saying that the White Nexus 4 will be launched synchronized with the debut of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, on June 10th, it looks like the white variant of the popular Nexus smartphone has seen the official confirmation sooner than expected, which made us question whether we will be seeing the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in flesh.
Just like I was mentioning above, the White Nexus 4 is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, which will deliver the pure Android experience.
The official LG press statement doesn’t mention anything about the White LG Nexus 4 availability in Google Play Store. The price wasn’t mentioned either, but if the terminal makes it into the Play Store, then expect price tags of $299 for the 8 GB model and $349 for the 16 GB White Nexus 4.
Anyway, since the global White Nexus 4 release date will be in the next several weeks, and sources said that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean will be launched on June 10th, there might still be a chance for us to see the next Android iteration this summer. Moreover, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was spotted running on a Nexus 4 (black) at Thailand Mobile Expo event.
