As we have already told you in a previous report, Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 4A budget Android smartphone in the Indian market. However, the Redmi 4A isn’t the only new smartphone that consumers in India will be getting their hands on. Xiaomi has confirmed that it will also launch the successors to the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime smartphones that it debuted in India last year. The company hasn’t revealed any specific timeframe though, which means will have to wait.
The Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime, which will succeed the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, were announced together in November last year for the Chinese market. While the two smartphones are identical in terms of the design and dimensions, they are very different in terms of the hardware specifications.
The Redmi 4 features a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 HD resolution and 2.5D curved glass on top. Powering the Redmi 4 is Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz, with the Adreno 505 GPU. The mid-range SoC has been coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which is further expandable by up to 128GB. However, like many other modern smartphones, Xiaomi is using a Hybrid Dual SIM slot on the Redmi 4, which means you will be able to expand the storage further with a microSD card only if you use a single SIM card. At the back, it sports a 13MP camera with phase detection autofocus, an f/2.2 aperture lens, dual-LED flash, and Full HD video capture. For selfies, the Redmi 4 comes equipped with a 5MP sensor on the front, paired with an f/2.2 aperture lens. Other key specs include a fingerprint scanner, Infrared sensor, and a 4100mAh capacity battery.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime on the other hand sports a 1080p resolution display of the same size. It is more powerful as well, running on the 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset clocked at 2 GHz. In the memory department, the Redmi 4 Prime comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. When it comes to the cameras however, the Redmi 4 Prime is identical to the standard Redmi 4. The same goes for the battery capacity as well. On the connectivity front however, the Redmi 4 Prime is slightly better than the Redmi 4, supporting newer connectivity standards such as Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy.
In China, the Redmi 4 was launched at 699 yuan ($103) while the Redmi 4 Prime launched at 899 yuan ($133).
