Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Expected to Launch in India Next Week

Popular Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is planning to launch a new Redmi smartphone in India next week. The company has sent out invites to a media event on January 19 to be held in New Delhi. Going by rumors, it looks like Xiaomi could launch the much-awaited Redmi Note 4 at the event.

The Redmi Note 4 was announced by Xiaomi in August last year, so it is arriving in India almost five months after it was announced for the Chinese market. The Redmi Note 4 sold in China is powered by the MediaTek MT6797 Helio X20 deca-core SoC under the hood, but we expect Xiaomi to swap it for the Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset for the Indian market.

The Redmi Note 4’s predecessor, Redmi Note 3, has been a huge success for Xiaomi in India, becoming the best-selling online-smartphone in the country. Thanks to its immense popularity in the Indian market, Xiaomi was able to generate $1 billion + in revenue from India last year. In terms of shipment numbers, Xiaomi is currently among the Top 3 smartphone vendors in the country.

The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch IPS display with 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution and a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. In China, Xiaomi offers the smartphone with 2GB of RAM combined with 16GB of internal storage on the Standard edition, while the more expensive version gets 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The smartphone also includes a 13MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus technology, 5MP selfie camera with HD video capture, and a large 4100mAh capacity battery that delivers excellent battery life. The fingerprint scanner, similar to the Redmi Note 3, is positioned at the back of the handset.

On the connectivity front, the Redmi Note 4 comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, FM Radio, Micro USB 2.0, GPS with GLONASS, Infrared port, and 4G LTE with VoLTE support. It runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI 8.0 OS, based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
