Sony has confirmed today that the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is available for installation on the Xperia ZR device.

When the KitKat firmware update files reach your region your device will receive an official notification message. Check the changelog and then simply confirm the installation.

Android 4.4 KitKat update for Sony Xperia ZR device brings a revamped UI that will add Quick Settings feature menu, new white status bar icons, a transparent status bar, support for emoji characters, better battery life, Smart Social Xperia Camera software, improved Better Stamina Mode, Sony Entertainment Network and PlayMemories cloud service integration for Walkman, Album and Movies.

With this new update you will get the possibility to change any other part of your Xperia ZR graphic UI using the Xperia Themes tool. This service provides support for downloading over 280 graphics elements and make your device look just like you want it as you will be able to change icons, lock screen appearance, wallpapers, navbar icons, checkboxes, sliders, buttons, switches, widgets, toggles and any other part of your phone's UI.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update is rolled out in phases worldwide which means that you might have to wait until the new firmware reaches your region. In case the update arrives you can simply apply it using the notification panel alert. Make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network before starting the installation process, so that you will avoid any mobile data costs.

If the update notification hasn't reached your Xperia ZR device, then you can check for new firmware files by going through Settings> About Phone and Software Update menu. Also, note that the new KitKat 4.4.2 OS Update will be pushed for Xperia ZR running on stock ROMs, so you won't be able to flash the update in case you have a custom ROM installed on your phone.

After you apply the update you should tell us in comments which are its best new features and if you find it running faster than the previous OS you had installed on your Xperia ZR smartphone.
