Trying to find the smartphone that fits you needs best can be a rather difficult task, but the decision can become a lot simpler if you just think about how much money do you want to spend on a mobile device. For instance, if you want to spend around $200, this should narrow your options down. Today we are going to talk about a very affordable phone that ships with a set of great features for the price. To be more specific, we are referring to the BLUBOO S1 which is one of the cheapest smartphone that has been released on the market that sports this range of specs. From the start, we are saying that the terminal is worth the money, but we will let you decide by yourself. It boasts a Tri-Bezel-Less panel and a screen to body ratio of 90 percent. If this does not sound appealing to you, read the whole review and find out more!

There are been a lot of interesting and powerful smartphone that has been launched this year, but most of them are sold in exchange for some really steep prices. and not everybody can afford them. The BLUBOO S1 is another appealing gadget, but which can be bought for $200. If we are to compare only the products released by BLUBOO alone in 2017, the S1 is certainly the most advanced. We already reviewed the BLUBOO S8, but the S1 is a more capable piece of machinery. You can even find it on sale at a smaller price than the mentioned one if you hurry up. Anyway, the BLUBOO S1 features 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via microSD card by up to 256 GB.

As said, the smartphone flaunts a 90 percent screen to body ratio, which is one of the best available on the market and it's underpinned by a Helio P25 Octa-Core SoC. Connectivity-wise, it comes with a Type-C Port, support for LTE Cat6, and on the back side you will find a dual camera module developed by Sony. We're talking about a 16 MP shooter alongside a 3 MP one. The display has a diagonal that measures 5.5 inches and it's protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 cover. We've listed the cameras and the memory, but we also need to tell you that you will have two options to choose from in terms of color, namely Pearl  White or Piano Black. In the software department, the BLUBOO S1 ships running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

On top of the display, the BLUBOO S1 has a 2.5D glass curved on both sides. Other characteristics worth mentioned are an OTG connection and Dual SIM and Dual Standby capabilities. The SIM slots can be used either with 2 nano SIMs or a nano SIM and an SD card. The phone will be kept on going by a 3500 mAh battery, while the front touch responsiveness is 0.1 seconds.

In terms of design, the BLUBOO S1 offers a 90 percent screen to body ratio, which is great, while the display is covered by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The display is advertised as being Tri-Bezel-Less, while the one on the back is Organic Glass. This type of glass permits more light to pass through its surface. Given that the phone is made out of Organic reinforced plastic the texture is similar to ceramic material.

Apart from looking good, the Organic Glass also provides a better grip over the device. Further, the top of the smartphone features a stripe that is basically the location where you van put the earpiece. The selfie snapper on the other hand, has a rather weird location since it's position near the home key. Also at the bottom, there is a fingerprint recognition sensor.

The screen panel measures 5.5 inches, has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, and it's covered by a 2.5D curved glass. It's kind of hard to locate the speaker because it's very small and at first glance you could think that it doesn't even exist. Another interesting aspect is that you have the possibility to rotate the front facing shooter whenever you want. The BLUBOO S1 has an anti-fingerprint layer that apart from it's main purpose of keeping the phone from being a fingerprint magnet, it also makes it more resistant to scratches. Not only this, but it's also going to be easier to clean the surface of the terminal. The fact that the BLUBOO S1 offers a 90% screen to body ratio is made possible since there are virtually no bezels on the front side of the smartphone.

As far as the hardware is concerned, the BLUBOO S1 managed to surprise us all with a few high-end components. First of all, the phone is powered by a SoC produced by Mediatek, specifically the Helio P25 Octa-Core which is clocked at 2.5 GHz. Looking at the specs of the BLUBOO S1 and the price for which is sold, you can realize that buying it would be a pretty good deal. Performance-wise, the BLUBOO S1 scored 60151 in AnTuTu, which is not bad at all. Moving on to the memory, the smartphone includes 64 GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded by up to 256 GB, and 4 GB of RAM. We tested the device by playing a few high demanding games and we did not really notice any serious lag or glitches even though we dealt with some intense graphics.

As far as the software goes, the ships pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat, so you know that are going to have the best experience with Google's latest iteration of its operating system. You will be enjoying features such as split multitasking and other various enhancements in terms of performance which will be smooth. Of course, the company has added their its own user interface to customize the OS, but it's not as crowded as you may think. You will not be facing any bloatware whatsoever, as the UI is rather sharp and minimalist. To give you a couple of examples, you will notice the standard widgets such as time and weather. No matter what kind of apps you install, you will not face any serious lags with the BLUBOO S1.

As said, on the back side of the phone there are two Sony branded cameras, namely a 16 MP camera and a 3 MP shooter. While the 16 MP one is obviously the primary camera of the device meant to tale most of your pictures, the 3 MP snapper is designed for the depth perception. You will be able to take quality photos even in low light conditions since the device sports a Dual LED flash on the back. Selfies and video calls will be made via the 8 MP camera situated on the front, which as in the case of the BLUBOO S8, will be near the home button, which also works as a fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone will have a more than decent battery life thanks to the rather large 3500 mAh cell which comes with support for quick charge technology. To be more specific, the phone will be completely charged in less than an hour and a half, which is a lot better than a normal charge. If we are to believe the company, the BLUBOO S1 is supposed to provide around 28 hours of talk time. If you want to listen to music, you will be able to do it for no less than 36 hours, which is truly impressive. As for video playback, it is said to offer 22 hours. This being said, there is no way that the BLUBOO S1 won't last you through an entire day even if you are a hardcore user.

The BLUBOO S1 is as responsive as it can be because it will execute the command after only 0.1 seconds after you touch it. So, even if the phone is cheap, it doesn't meant that it won't provide a fun experience overall. Other features include a USB Type C port and an OTC connection option. You can get yourself a 3.3mm jack adapter so you can be able to listen to music using the headphones.

All in all, the BLUBOO S1 is a great choice if the budget for buying a new smartphone is limited. For this money, it comes with a great performance and looks. In fact, even if you have patience, it will be difficult for you to find a better option considering that the BLUBOO S1 costs around $200.
